Proud to share that our Dean contributed to UPCEA’s new Hallmarks of Excellence in Digital Learning Enterprises!

This framework reflects months of collaboration among more than 80 Chief Online Learning Officers and higher education leaders to define what excellence in digital learning looks like today, and what institutions need to thrive in the future.

Highlighting Hallmark 4 (Learner Support), Dean Pippin emphasized that building community and honoring student backgrounds is key to meaningful learning.

Serious about our goals, but never too serious for some fun. 💼✨
We wrapped up our quarterly division meeting last week by focusing on the future and having a little fun. To test our division's commitment to adaptability, we surprised Dean Pippin with the "Anything But a Cup" challenge. Huge thanks to Rice Creek Field Station for hosting us, to the team for a great quarter, and to Dean Pippin for being such a fantastic sport!

"Because SUNY Oswego has a long history of support for military and veteran audiences, including 41 years serving nearby Fort Drum and where Oswego led the former SUNY North Country Consortium, the university was a natural fit for this expansion, said Jill Pippin, dean of Extended Learning.

"'When SUNY System Administration embarked on efforts to further grow capabilities to serve military servicepeople, SUNY Oswego had to be involved,' Pippin said. 'It's in our DNA!'"

SUNY Oswego is expanding opportunities for military service members and veterans through a new partnership with the Medical Education and Training Center (METC).

As one of six SUNY campuses participating in the METC-SUNY Degree Bridge Partnership, Oswego will recognize military medical training for academic credit, helping students build on their experience, reduce barriers and move more quickly toward healthcare-related degrees and careers.

It's another example of our longstanding commitment to serving military-connected students and creating flexible pathways to educational success.

On Thursday, April 16, 2026 Senior Academic Planning Coordinator Melissa Semione and Instructional Designer Carrie Mocyk, both from the Division of Extended Learning, presented at the Annual UPCEA Conference in New Orleans, LA.

This presentation highlighted the research and best practice of SUNY Oswego's newly developed Online Degree and Syracuse Programs Orientation, which was designed last year specifically to better prepare new students in these programs to be successful on their academic journey.

The UPCEA conference was full of timely, relevant sessions that will directly support our online programs and enhance how we serve today’s students and those we’ll reach in the future.
