IHCC REPRESENTS AT 25 MEN THAT CAN COOK!

The Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra held its 15th Annual 25 Men That Can Cook event last Saturday at the Bridge View Center, and a pair of participants from Indian Hills took home honors!

Nate Miller continued his run of dominance at 25 Men as his Firecracker Wonton Dumplings collected 1st place in the Pre-Dining Category, as well as a runner-up honor in the People's Choice category.

Will Quang represented the IHCC Culinary Club and collected bronze honors for his Peach Cherry Cream Puff in the Dessert category.

Indian Hills was once again a silver sponsor for 25 Men as Marketing provided all the design work for posters, ballots, programs, sponsor cards, and table tents, and the IHCC Printing Department hit it on the screws under a tight deadline to make everything come together in the nick of time!

Dr. Matt Thompson, President of Indian Hills Community College, has served as the chair of the Community Colleges for Iowa's Presidents group for the 2025-2026 academic year. A dedicated advocate for Iowa’s community colleges, Matt has been a strong and effective voice for the sector, regularly engaging with state legislators, attending meetings and hearings at the Iowa Capitol, and helping advance initiatives that support students, workforce development, and economic growth across Iowa. His leadership is informed by a deep understanding of the unique needs and opportunities facing our state’s diverse regions, including their distinct workforce and higher education needs. Through his collaborative approach and commitment to serving all of Iowa’s community colleges, Dr. Thompson has helped foster productive dialogue among college leaders, ultimately bolstering the group’s work with policymakers to champion policies that strengthen access to career pathways. His leadership in the president's group and contribution to the community college sector are greatly appreciated. 🧡

We look forward to formally presenting this award at our Trustee Conference during our awards reception and dinner in July. 🏆🎉

Indian Hills is pleased to announce Michael Wetrich as the college's new Athletic Director. A former Division I athlete and Indian Hills Head Golf Coach, Wetrich brings a unique perspective to student-athlete success.

Wetrich is no stranger to success as the Ottumwa native won a NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf National Championship in just his first complete season at the helm of the Indian Hills Men's Golf Program. He was also named the 2023 NJCAA National Coach of the Year. Over past 4 years, Wetrich's team never finished outside of the top 10, finishing second this past season. Wetrich's teams had success both on the course and in the classroom with 11 NJCAA All-Americans during his coaching tenure and all members of the 2026 Men’s Golf Program achieved All-Region Academic Team status.

Indian Hills President, Dr. Matt Thompson, stated "We are proud to have Michael represent Indian Hills as the next athletic director. As an Ottumwa native, he brings strong ties to the community and a commitment to student-athlete success. We are excited to see his vision come to life and look forward to the future of Indian Hills Athletics under his leadership."

HOLD ON TO YOUR MORTAR BOARDS… WE’RE TAKIN’ A WALK! – Indian Hills Community College held its 2026 Spring Commencement on its Ottumwa campus on a windy evening as a standing room only crowd at the Hellyer Student Life Center observed as our Warriors and their friends and families hugged, fist bumped, and delivered shout outs as they received their diplomas and certificates. IHCC Adjunct Instructor, Tom Shadonix delivered the keynote address with his over half-century worth of experience at Indian Hills. Enjoy a look back at all the smiles from this celebration! Congratulations to all as you begin your next chapter! 🎓
