Help Our Feathered Friends Reach Home! 🦢✨
Did you know that millions of birds are currently navigating the night sky? Most birds migrate under the cover of darkness, and bright artificial lights can disorient them, leading to exhaustion or dangerous collisions.

You can make a world of difference with the flip of a switch! Following these simple steps from the Farmers’ Almanac helps ensure our backyard visitors complete their incredible journeys safely:

Best: Turn outdoor lights OFF completely during peak migration.

Better: Use motion sensors or shielded fixtures that point light downward.

Good: Switch to warmer, amber, or red-toned bulbs—avoiding those "colder" blue-white LEDs.

Let's keep the skies dark and the flyways safe. 🌙 💤

Are you seeing any early migrants in your area yet? Tell us what birds you've spotted in the comments! 👇

Our recent post on removing labels caused quite a debate. Let’s get specific and clear some things up:

-Adhesive labels are the most common type of label used on consumer products. RecycleSpot works directly with our Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) where all your curbside recyclables go for processing.

-MRFs determine what items are acceptable in your bin and how they should be prepared. For years they've stated that adhesive labels do not need to be removed from cans and plastic containers because they are removed during material processing.

-RecycleSpot also works directly with Ripple Glass which recycles all the KC metro area’s glass bottles and jars. They state that you do not need to remove the adhesive labels on bottles and jars because they are removed when Ripple Glass processes the glass.

-Shrink sleeves on the other hand, are heat-sensitive plastic labels that wrap around an entire container and shrink to fit its shape. They are commonly used on beverages, nutraceuticals and personal care products.

-These sleeves and containers are usually made from different types of plastic. This can cause the container to be misidentified and baled with the wrong type of material during processing. And so our MRFs state that you SHOULD remove (and discard) *shrink sleeves* from plastic containers to keep this from happening.

At RecycleSpot, we strive to keep our posts clear and succinct to make recycling right easy for you. Thank you for recycling right!
