University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media Students also have the opportunity to immediately apply the skills learned in the classroom by gaining paid experience at the S.

Students at the School of Journalism and New Media (SJNM) are being prepared for thriving professional careers in journalism through superior education and hands-on, real world experience at the University of Mississippi. SJNM degree programs – the bachelor of arts, the master of arts, and the newly offered bachelor of science in integrated marketing communications – give students the opportunity

to understand the changing role of journalism from different perspectives while developing the multimedia and intellectual skills necessary to succeed in the media industry. Gale Denley Student Media Center, where students can be published in The Daily Mississippian or The Ole Miss yearbook, gain on-air experience by reporting for NewsWatch or Rebel Radio, or get a glimpse of the business side of journalism by working for the student-run advertising division. Students also have the opportunity to help create content for HottyToddy.com. It is an online news publication, independent of SJNM in which it is housed.

What a week in New Orleans! School of Journalism and New Media faculty had a strong showing at presenting new research, leading conversations, serving on panels and connecting with colleagues from across the country.

Across over 20 presentations and panels our faculty and students contributed to discussions on everything from AI and visual communication to health and climate communication, journalism education, political communication, local news and more.

And we had plenty to celebrate! Debora Wenger received the 2026 Edward L. Bliss Award, broadcast journalism education’s highest honor. Amanda Sams and Mike Fagans were also recognized with awards during the conference. Congratulations to all!
