Lake Erie College, founded in 1856, provides an excellent, inclusive, and highly personalized education grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Guided by hope and care, our students are empowered to lead lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens. We offer 35 undergraduate majors and master’s programs in business administration, professional studies, education, and

physician assistant studies. Our students compete in 19 NCAA Division II varsity sports and on three intercollegiate equestrian teams.

Welcome to a new year in Equine Studies at Lake Erie College! 🐴💚

A special welcome to our Equine Studies Class of 2030. We’re so excited to have you here and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish during your time at LEC!

And to our returning students, welcome back! We’re looking forward to another year of learning, riding, competing, and growing together as an Equine Studies community.

Here’s to a great year ahead, new friendships, new challenges, new opportunities, and plenty of time spent with horses along the way.

**Summer Internship Spotlight: Sophie Miller 🐴**

This summer, Equine Studies student Sophie Miller returned to the Netherlands for her second summer internship, gaining valuable hands-on experience while continuing to expand her knowledge and horsemanship.

Sophie has had the opportunity to work with both young and experienced horses, allowing her to adapt her approach to different horses, training levels, and needs. Her days have included daily stable management and horse care, along with the opportunity to attend international and local shows and experience the equestrian industry from a different perspective.

And when she’s had time off, Sophie has taken the opportunity to travel throughout the Netherlands, experiencing the country beyond the barn.

From developing her riding to learning about different equestrian programs and cultures, Sophie’s internship has been an incredible opportunity to learn, work, and grow in the international equine industry.

We’re proud to see our students making the most of their summers and gaining experiences that will carry with them long after they return to campus!

There is something special about a one-day horse show.

It's where so many of us got our start. It's where young riders nervously walked into their very first showmanship class, where families packed the truck before sunrise, and where lifelong friendships were made around a tailgate lunch. It's where local clubs built our equestrian communities from the ground up.

Lately, I've heard the same thing over and over from riders of every age:

"We miss the grassroots shows."

The horse industry needs them.

Not every family can dedicate an entire weekend, or several weekends, to the big circuits. For many horse-owning families, a one-day show means they can enjoy a full day of competition and be home that evening, without missing work on Friday or school on Monday. It gives new riders a welcoming place to learn, gain confidence, and fall in love with showing before taking the next step. Those local shows are the foundation that grows our industry and keeps it thriving for generations to come.

That's exactly why we host the Lake Erie College Fall Open Horse Show.

This isn't just another horse show. It's a community coming together to support the next generation of horsemen and horsewomen while keeping the tradition of affordable, local competition alive.

Every entry helps our IHSA Western Team continue to succeed. Proceeds from the show directly support our student-athletes by helping fund travel to visit outstanding professional facilities, purchase new tack and equipment for our western horses, and provide opportunities that make their collegiate experience even better.

Whether you're bringing a seasoned show horse, a youngster to gain experience, or a rider entering the show ring for the very first time, there is a place for you here.

By attending, you're doing more than showing your horse.

You're investing in college students chasing their dreams.
