The CSUSB Nursing Department was proud to partner again this year with OneFuture Coachella Valley through the K16-Collaborative Grant Program to inspire and mentor the next generation of nurses! 🩺

Throughout the year, local high school students explored what it means to pursue a career in nursing through hands-on learning, mentorship and campus experiences at our Palm Desert Campus.

Highlights from the year included:

• A Careers in Nursing event where students and their families connected with nursing mentors, enjoyed dinner, heard from a student panel and toured our state-of-the-art simulation labs.

• Three mentoring sessions welcoming students from Indio High School and La Quinta High School.

• Interactive experiences where students explored their strengths, learned about the daily life of a nursing student, toured the Palm Desert Campus and practiced with patient simulators and medical equipment.

We are honored to help guide and support future healthcare professionals as they take their first steps toward a rewarding career in nursing! 👏💙

As part of their social work policy course, students at the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus recently completed a Community Advocacy Project (CAP) focused on addressing local community needs through advocacy and action.

The group organized Black Rock High School’s first-ever College & Career Exploration Day in Yucca Valley, serving 150 alternative and continuation students in the Morongo Unified School District. The event connected students with local colleges, including the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus, and provided information on academic programs, career technical education and future career pathways to support their post-secondary planning.

The CSUSB Palm Desert Campus hosted a Business Majors Open House on May 14, welcoming 50 students from Coachella Valley High School and Desert Mirage High School for an engaging day of exploration and learning.

Students toured the campus, connected with faculty and learned about the academic and career opportunities available through the university’s Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration.

Representatives from hospitality management and marketing shared information about their respective degree programs and related career pathways. Alumnus Baldomero Felix, an accountant at The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage, and PDC hospitality management student Alejandra Corona, offered students valuable insight into the college experience as well as job opportunities during college and after graduation.

Joe Tormey, hospitality management program director, delivered a presentation about the various degree concentrations and majors offered through JHBC that include international study abroad and experiential events. He also spoke about internship opportunities, careers in the Coachella Valley and regional industry connections.

The event reflected the CSUSB Palm Desert Campus’s ongoing commitment to empowering local students and strengthening the future workforce of the Coachella Valley.
