PCC’s Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management department is excited to be back at the CA ProStart Cup 2025 again this year! The California Restaurant Association Education Foundation’s competition is the state’s premier culinary arts and restaurant entrepreneurship competition for teens, and 34 California high school students are putting their skills to the test this year in front of industry experts. One of those experts is our very own Chef Colleen Nanno who has judged this competition for the past 7 years!

Winners receive scholarships and the chance to represent California at the National ProStart Student Invitational!
Thanks to our sponsor Cal Poly Pomona and their Collins College of Hospitality Management!

Thanks also to our awesome student workers Brian () and Diego () for representing CAHM at the College and Career Expo!

Huge congrats to our very own PCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management student, Ximón Wood, on a well-deserved win at the Friends in Deed “Cooking for a Cause” competition at Agnes Restaurant!

Ximón’s winning menu: Pan-fried Chicken Thighs with Apple Pan Sauce and Hearth Roasted Potatoes with Aquafaba

A message from Ximón:
I am a current PCC CAHM student in my last semester of the program. I recently began my Restaurant Operations Internship with Panda Express which is the final step to achieving my A.S. in Hospitality Management. Through the  CAHM program I wanted to develop my skills in management, culinary, baking, and beverage appreciation, and my experience at PCC went above and beyond that. I started taking online classes at PCC during the pandemic and after eventually taking Dr. Mark Keene’s beverage appreciation class and Chef Colleen Nano’s Foundations of Baking class, I knew that I wanted to make a career change and pursue a new passion for working in the kitchen. I learned about the Cooking for a Cause event through PCC and I’m so glad I took a chance on it!  I am incredibly grateful that my first experience ever in a cooking competition was a winner and I owe a great deal of that success to PCC’s awesome CAHM program.
