Please join us as we welcome our New Graduate Student Mentor, Sara Vanovac🧡🤍
Sara Vanovac is a third-year PhD student in Physics working under Professor Olexei Motrunich. Her research focuses on the non-equilibrium dynamics of low-dimensional, strongly correlated systems, where, within the framework of generalized hydrodynamics, she constructs perturbations that lead to anomalous transport and thermalization.
At Caltech, she served on the PMA Advisory Board and was the co-chair of the FUTURE in Physics workshop. Currently, she is most interested in the topic of inclusion and how we can build communities that foster collaboration and growth while minimizing competition and uniformity.
As the CCID Graduate Student Mentor, Sara will mainly support students in our signature programs, Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) and First-Year Success Research Institute (FSRI).
It appears that our National Coming Out Day Digital Education Post did not make it to Facebook last Friday.

In 1992, Berkeley, CA instituted Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a counter-celebration to the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Columbus in the Americas. Indigenous Peoples’ Day has since been recognized in different forms and under a variety of names. This day is meant to recognize the painful and resilient history Indigenous people have faced and to celebrate their communities.
After years of advocacy and activism, the first-ever presidential proclamation of Indigenous Peoples’ Day was issued in 2021. It is celebrated on the 2nd Monday of October.
