10/06/2026

On October 6, 1683, Franz Daniel Pastorius led 13 Mennonite families from Krefeld in the Rhineland Palatinate to found Germantown, in the Colony of Pennsylvania. Each year October 6th is celebrated nationwide as German American Day.

Below is a copy of a Thank You note received by our New Braunfels, Texas, Unit for the Schultüten that the Unit presents to the First Graders at Cross Lutheran Church and School each year. This tradition copies the the German tradition of presenting a cone full of goodies and school supplies to young children who are attending school for the first time.
