When it comes to cookie-cutter colleges, Paul Smith’s is anything but. In fact, we’re the only 4-year college inside the boundaries of the world-famous “forever wild” Adirondacks. Students at Paul Smith’s College experience a hands-on education that combines proven career training with a meaningful exploration of self, society and the earth:

- if you’re a forestry major, you’ll play a role in the

sustainable management of the college’s 14,000-acre property

- if you’re a fisheries and wildlife science major, you will learn to tag and track different species

- if you’re an entrepreneurial business studies major, you will write a working business plan for a local operation

Living and learning here requires a special kind of student – someone who values the abundance of our natural landscape and embraces our spirit of creative self-reliance. We call ourselves Smitties and the Smitty experience is one-of-a-kind: http://www.paulsmiths.edu/about/why-paul-smiths/

Another year of growth for Paul Smith's College 🌲

For the third year in a row, we’re welcoming a larger incoming class, with new student enrollment up 45% over that time.

More students and families are choosing an education where learning happens in the woods, on the water and through real work. They’re coming to build, explore, solve problems and gain the experience that prepares them for what comes next.

And that opportunity is reaching more students. 34% of our incoming class are first-generation college students, with programs like HEOP and TRiO helping open the door to a Paul Smith’s education.

We’re proud of this momentum. Even more, we’re proud of the students who are here and what they’ll do with the opportunities ahead. Read more at the link below.

As Paul Smith’s College prepares to receive 236 undergraduate students this fall, it today announced its new student enrollment has increased over 45% over three recruitment cycles, sustaining last year’s historic growth.

The first week is officially underway🌲

Classrooms are full and campus is coming back to life as a new semester begins at Paul Smith’s College.

For our students, learning doesn’t stay behind a classroom door. It happens in the woods, on the water, in the kitchen, in the lab and wherever the work takes them. Here's to another year of hands-on learning in the Adirondacks.

Welcome back, Smitties. Let’s get to it.

We have officially started a new academic year at Paul Smith’s College.

At Convocation, our community gathered to welcome the Class of 2030 and celebrate the work, curiosity and determination that define the Smitty experience. In his keynote address, Dr. Antonius Rivera '00 encouraged students to take advantage of the unique experiences that Paul Smith's College offers:

"What makes Paul Smith’s different is what happens once students get here: They are known, challenged, supported and given the opportunity to learn by doing. That combination is what makes Paul Smith’s a place where students can discover what they can accomplish and who they are meant to be.”

That message fits this place. At Paul Smith’s, learning doesn’t stay inside a classroom. It happens on the trails, in the forest, on the water, in the kitchen, in the lab and wherever real work needs to be done.

Here’s to a year of getting out there, getting your hands dirty and discovering what you’re capable of.

Welcome home, Smitties.🌲

We’re especially excited to welcome Dr. Antonius Rivera ’00 back to campus as this year’s keynote speaker. We can’t wait to welcome the Class of 2030 to campus and officially kick off the year. See you at Convocation!

Today, we celebrate the birthday of Apollos Smith, whose name and legacy are woven into the history of Paul Smith's College.

Apollos Smith built a life and livelihood in the Adirondacks, creating a place that welcomed people to experience the landscape around them. Today, that connection to place continues to shape how we learn at Paul Smith’s.

We don’t just study ideas in a classroom. We put them to work. Students learn through fieldwork, projects and experiences that connect what they’re learning directly to the Adirondacks. Apollos Smith’s legacy reminds us that learning can be grounded in a place, shaped by experience, and strengthened by doing.

Happy birthday, Apollos🌲
