A joint statement from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke's Student Body President and The Greener Coalition regarding the Paris Agreement and Governor Roy Cooper's commitment to it.
When we think of the future, we should be thinking beyond our own life time. When we think of innovation, we should think of ideas and technologies that allow us to reach that future.
The Student Government Association stands in solidarity with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper in his commitment to ensure that the great state of North Carolina does its part to achieve the mission of the Paris Agreement in its fight against climate change. Governor Cooper stated, “North Carolina knows that clean air and energy innovation are good for our economy and health, and we’re committed to continuing to lead in this area.” As an institution that is committed to its students and changing lives through education, it is our duty to provide a future to ideas that provide us with a more sustainable planet.
The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is an institution that enriches the UNC System and provides opportunities for many students from across the world and the state. We are committed in the responsibility we have to uphold the idea set forth in the Paris Agreement, and to support the university community, leaders, and organizations across the State. We will continue to stay involved and support sustainability at UNCP and Robeson County to ensure the university community’s commitment to position UNCP and Robeson County as a regional leader for sustainability.
With appreciation,
UNCP Student Body President, Dajer Fernandez
