Look who's getting noticed again - this time for his success in moving his research beyond the laboratory and into potential commercialization. Dr. Bahr's laboratory is developing a pill designed to help the brain naturally clear several toxic proteins linked to Alzheimer's disease.

UNC Pembroke neuroscientist Dr. Ben Bahr receives Sigma Xi's 2026 Wyatt Technology Transfer Award for advancing Alzheimer's research toward real-world treatments.

What a treat to see [maybe] future Braves making their end-of-camp performances at the "Pembroke to Broadway" experience! What they put together in 5 days with voice instructor Piper Pack-Smith and some UNCP student mentors was truly amazing. So little time, so much to learn, all done on a shoestring budget!

Thanks to the Office for Regional Initiatives for including the Department of Music in their series of summer camps for local youth.

If you want to help sponsor this experience next year, reach out!

Dr. Nik Petrov's class on C.S. Lewis is in Oxford and Cambridge this month for the travel component of the course! Through visits to historically significant sites, including the universities where Lewis lived and taught, and readings & discussions in Canvas, students consider how his work engages themes such as faith, redemption and moral courage. Along for the ride is fearless chaperone Dr. Ashley Allen, Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Students met Simon Horobin, author of their textbook, "C.S. Lewis' Oxford," a professor of English language and medieval literature at Oxford University, and he autographed their books!

Researchers in the Department of Geology and Geography are providing free testing of water in Robeson County to eligible households who are on private wells. Their research on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), often referred to as "forever chemicals," helps improve understanding of groundwater quality in the community.

The research is supported by NC Collaboratory funding. As part of the project, collected data will be shared with the funding agencies and interested parties. Participants will receive a copy of their individual test results.

To be eligible, a well must not have been tested previously for PFAS, and a record of the well construction that was submitted to the NC Department of Environmental Quality is needed. For more information on how to get involved, residents may contact Dr. Madan Maharjan in the Department of Geology and Geography at [email protected]
