Fixing my student’s eye drawing! In this quick art critique, I refine the shape, deepen the shadows for more volume, add the eyebrow, and draw the eyelashes in small clusters so the eye looks more realistic and three-dimensional.
What is the hardest part of drawing eyes for you?

3/4 Eyelashes: The Easy Way

In this video, I’m showing you a common mistake: drawing lashes one by one and making them look too "even." This is what makes your drawings look flat and unnatural.
I’ll share my simple method to fix this and help you achieve that realistic 3D look in your portraits.
In this video:
• Why your 3/4 lashes look "strange"
• The secret to natural lash grouping
• Step-by-step transformation: from Flat to 3D

Where is the REAL light source in this winter landscape?
In this short art lesson, we look at cast shadows, snow-covered trees, and a snowman to understand how light and shadow reveal the true direction of light.
This is why academic drawing starts with the sphere: once you understand light on a simple form, you can see volume everywhere — in trees, snow, branches, and even a snowman.
Learn to see light, shadow, and form like an artist.

Traditional vs Digital Shading

3/4 eye shading is already tricky — but from above and from below, it gets even harder.
In this short, I’m comparing digital and traditional shading on two difficult eye angles.
Same idea. Two methods. Harder perspective.
Which one wins?

Can you find the real light source?

A cast shadow can tell you more than a fake sun in the picture. Draw a line from the cast shadow through the tree crown, then compare it with the light and shadow areas on the leaves and trunk.

This is why academic drawing starts with the sphere: it teaches you to see light, form, and shadow clearly.

I’ve released two episodes of a three-part mini-series on how to draw eyes from difficult angles.

If you struggle with this kind of drawing, I hope my video helps you solve those problems.

I’d be happy to see your work at any stage. Post it here or in the YouTube community.

The most delicious episode is coming soon — shading!

Stay tuned for the release!

Can you draw both eyes from the front, but they fall apart in three-quarter view or at an angle?
In this short video, I show a simple way to understand eye perspective using your own hands as a 3D training tool. The palm compresses in perspective just like the eye opening does, so you can use your hand as a quick visual guide.
In the full lesson, I break down the three hardest eye angles step by step:

Tracing is not bad by itself.
But if you use tracing instead of real construction, you skip the skill you actually need: seeing placement, size, angle, and symmetry.

Don’t copy-paste the second eye.
Build it.
