Learning by Doing at George Stone Technical College!

Our Electricity students are putting their skills to work right here on campus! They are currently replacing outdated classroom lighting fixtures with new, modern fixtures that are flush with the ceiling.

The new lights provide higher wattage while using less energy than the older fixtures they are replacing. Because the new lighting is more efficient, fewer fixtures are needed to provide the same—or better—lighting throughout the classrooms.

This project is giving our students valuable, hands-on experience with:
🔹 Removing and installing lighting fixtures
🔹 Electrical connections and wiring
🔹 Working safely in an active school environment
🔹 Understanding energy-efficient electrical systems
🔹 Repairing and replacing ceiling tiles where the old fixtures were located

What better way to learn than by putting classroom knowledge into practice on a real project? Our students are gaining skills they can take directly into the workforce while helping improve our campus along the way!

Connecting Classroom Skills to Real-World Opportunities!

We were excited to welcome Robert Turpin, Manager of the Escambia County Marine Resources Division, to our Marine Services and Welding Programs at George Stone Technical College!

Mr. Turpin spoke with our students about how the skills they are learning in the classroom can be used in exciting real-world projects—including the construction and development of barrier reefs.

The Escambia County Marine Resources Division partners with the State of Florida and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on projects that support our local marine environment and coastal resources.

This visit was a great reminder that the hands-on skills our students are developing today can make a difference in our community tomorrow. We are proud to give our students opportunities to connect their training with the needs of local industry and the environment.

Thank you, Robert Turpin, for taking the time to visit our students and share your knowledge and experience!

Program Spotlight of the Week — Network Support

BUILDING THE FOUNDATION FOR A CAREER IN IT!

We're wrapping up our Program Spotlight of the Week with a closer look at the Network Support Program at George Stone Technical College!

Every great IT career starts with the fundamentals.

Our Network Support Services students are building their foundation one connection at a time. They are learning how to:
🔹 Identify network components
🔹 Make proper connections
🔹 Trace cables
🔹 Organize and label network cabling
🔹 Troubleshoot when a computer cannot connect to the network

And where can these skills lead? After completing their training, students may be prepared to pursue opportunities such as: Network Support Technician, IT Support Specialist, Computer Support Specialist, Help Desk Technician, Network Technician, Technical Support Specialist, Systems Support Technician, Junior Network Administrator.

Most importantly, students gain experience with the tools and equipment used in the IT field, connecting classroom learning with real-world applications.

We're excited to watch our students build their skills, gain confidence, earn industry-recognized certifications, and prepare for what's next!

Our daytime Welding Technology students are putting their skills—and some impressive equipment—to work on a project supporting our Criminal Justice program!

This project has many layers of old paint, so the best and quickest way to prepare the surface is with one of our next-level tools: our laser rust and paint remover.

Students are getting hands-on experience with advanced technology while learning how the right equipment can make a big difference in real-world projects.

This is just one of the many advanced pieces of equipment our Welding Technology students have the opportunity to learn and operate at George Stone Technical College!

We're not just teaching welding—we're preparing students for the technology and skills of today's workforce.
