Since our founding in 1970, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria has enhanced the central Illinois region by educating medical students, residents, and fellows as well as performing the latest in research. Faculty from the Health Sciences Education and Pathology (HSEP) department donated more than 100 pounds of fresh produce to Sophia's Kitchen on Thursday, July 30. The donation included freshly harvested apples, Asian pears, and salad greens, providing fresh, locally grown produce to people in need.

The Peer Education Program (PEP) has awarded the following students as Level 1 certified tutors in the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor training program: Evan Strandquist, M4, Grace Borkowski, M4, Matthew Hill, M4, Kristi Nguyen, M4, and Yomna Ibrahim, M3.

To be awarded, they had to meet four requirements: selection (based on academic achievement and tutoring experience), training (at least 10 hours of training), experience (at least 25 student-facing hours), and evaluation.

UICOMP students, faculty, and staff are welcome to pick fruits and vegetables from the garden. Currently ready are kale, cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, strawberries, and jalapenos. Apples and pears will be ready in August!
