Fashion Design at Drexel University

The program is ranked in the top four in the United States and 14th in the world.

Drexel's top-flight Fashion Design major is a studio-based, boutique-style program that trains the next generation of creative thinkers for the fashion industry. Students in Drexel’s Fashion Design program have the opportunity to study alongside dynamic educators with extensive industry experience, produce innovative designs in our well-equipped studios, and participate in Drexel’s world-renowned

co-op and study abroad programs. The culmination of the program is the Drexel Fashion Show, at which students showcase original garments and accessories for industry leaders. Students in Drexel’s Fashion Design undergraduate program receive a bachelor of science degree from one of the nation’s top universities located in the United States’ sixth largest city, with easy access to Philadelphia’s rich cultural and vibrant design scene.

We’re excited to celebrate Nick Kinniry, a rising senior in Drexel’s Fashion Design program, who will be showcasing his Fall/Winter “Na Na” collection at Philly Fashion Week ,with fellow Fashion Design student Gianna Stump assisting with
the collection.

Come support our Fashion Design students as Nick brings “Na Na” to the runway at PFW Runway One on Friday, September 18 at 7:00 PM at 901 Market Street in Philadelphia.

Did you know? Charles Evans was the founder of Evan-Picone, a pioneering women’s sportswear brand that helped revolutionize the industry in the 1960s. His legacy continues today through the Charles Evans Foundation, which supports promising students and organizations, including Drexel Fashion Design.

Day 5 of the High School Program is complete!
The final day of classes began with a workshop on creating mood boards and developing color palettes with Cory Schneiders. Students then spent time in the studio refining and updating their portfolios in preparation for their final critique with Valentina D. Chaviano ,where they received thoughtful feedback on the projects they completed throughout the week.
To conclude the program, the group visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art to explore the museum’s collections and experience the iconic Rocky Steps.
The following day, students showcased their work during the closing exhibition and ceremony, celebrating a week of creativity, growth, and accomplishment.

Day 4 of the High School Program!
Students began the day with a fabric manipulation workshop led by Jackie, where they explored creative techniques for sculpting organza into a variety of forms.
After break, they learned how to create digital knitwear swatches using the Shima Seiki knitting machine, gaining hands-on experience with innovative textile technology.
The final class of the day was a fashion illustration session with Cindy, where students developed their sketching techniques and brought their design concepts to life.
To wrap up the evening, students enjoyed a special screening of Project Runway On Bravo featuring most.hated.usa for some behind the scenes facts!

Day 3 of the High School Fashion Program Complete!

On the third day, students visited CADRÆ to gain an inside look at the art of suit tailoring. They learned about the craftsmanship, precision, and attention to detail that go into creating a custom suit from start to finish.

After the visit, the group had the opportunity to explore Old City before returning to the studio for an introduction to CLO 3D, where they learned the fundamentals of digital pattern making and garment design.

To wrap up the day, students joined a Zoom conversation with program alumnus Evan Hirsch, who shared his experiences and insights into building a career in the fashion industry.

Day 2 of the High School Fashion Summer Program is complete!
The day began with a field trip to the Bok Building, where students visited Remark Glass to learn about the art of glassblowing. They then toured The LAW , gaining an inside look at the craftsmanship and process behind creating custom wedding gowns.
Students also visited Lobo Mau to explore the brand’s design and production process before taking time to discover the many creative businesses throughout the Bok Building.
After lunch, the group returned to Westphal for a workshop with Veronica, who introduced students to the fundamentals of textile print design.
To wrap up the day, students had the opportunity to hear from Elias Frost and most.hated.usa about Supima and participate in a discussion with rising seniors about the value of maintaining a design journal throughout the creative process.

Day 1 of the High School Fashion Summer Program is complete!
Our first full day of classes was packed with creativity and hands-on learning.

Students began by exploring the art of draping on dress forms with DC, documenting their work through photography.
Using their draped designs as inspiration, they then learned how to create technical fashion flats. After scanning their illustrations into Newarc AI, students visualized how their garments would look in a variety of fabrics, bringing their concepts to life through technology.

To wrap up the day, the class visited the academic building to learn the fundamentals of screen printing, where each student designed and printed their own custom T-shirt.

Behind the scenes at Nuuly!

Our Fashion Design III: Sustainable Design students recently had the opportunity to visit Nuuly’s distribution center, where they met with team members to learn how one of the fashion industry’s leading clothing rental services operates

From garment processing and quality control to cleaning, repairs, and logistics, students gained firsthand insight into how circular fashion works at scale. Seeing the journey of a
garment beyond the retail floor sparked important conversations about sustainability, innovation, and the future of fashion

Meet Bobby and hear about her journey from Drexel student to professional designer, her experiences in the fashion industry, and the creative path that led her to Project Runway

Every spring quarter, our first-year fashion students take on a unique challenge in a specialized 3D design section. Students construct garments entirely from recycled or unused repurposed materials. The first project focuses on sustainable practices and unconventional resources, pushing creativity while reducing waste.

The Garbage Gala is a first-year student fashion show planned, produced, and run completely by Westphal students. From concept to runway, fashion students showcase how sustainability and fashion can coexist.
