Developmental Science Lab - Temple University

Developmental Science Lab - Temple University Since the founding of our lab at Temple in 2004, hundreds of families have visited us to participate in studies.

We are a team of researchers in the Department of Psychology at Temple University who are interested in how infants and children develop an understanding of the world around them. Our research depends on interested parents who can help us learn more about how children’s minds develop over the first months and years. We study children’s development with a variety of measures, including behavioral tasks and simple measurements of brain activity using a technique called EEG.

An exciting new study in the Temple Infant and Child Lab, The Cactus Study, is recruiting participants! We are investigating the brain signals associated with social interaction with toddlers and their caregivers in collaboration with the Developmental Science Lab at Temple. Toddlers will get to wear an EEG cap while playing and interacting during a fun visit on Temple’s Main Campus. Please contact us at 215-839-6202, [email protected], or visit this link (https://redcap.link/cactusinterest) if you are interested in participating. Toddlers must be between 18 and 30 months of age and accompanied by a primary caregiver.

We are currently recruiting infants around 6 months old for a new study! We are studying how infants learn how to grasp. Parents will record their baby grasping every 2 weeks until their baby is 14 months old, then, COVID-19 permitting, we will have an in-lab component. You can be compensated up to $170 for this study. Click this link and fill out the information and we will contact you!

Welcome to our exciting new study!   As babies grow and learn about the world around them, they are discovering their own body and learning how to control it! We think the way babies grow is amazing! Currently, we are looking at how infants learn how to grasp over time. Due to the COVID19 pandemic,...

Hi friends of the Developmental Science Lab,

To past participants, we've sent out a paid follow-up study that will run online from July-Dec to understand how this is impacting our families and children (via your old email, so email us if we missed you or you have a new email! [email protected]). We are hoping to understand how these 'changing times' impact families and children's interactions with screens, their peers and their parents.

For another opportunity for parents (especially those with young'uns under 7 months or expecting a child) from our research partners, fill out this survey on "Parenting New Life in the New Normal: Survey for Expecting and New Parents": https://cambridge.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3UlZRXIjBQWibe5

Hi friends of the Developmental Science Lab,

We miss you all and are grateful for your support of our research! We're working on developing a paid follow-up study that will run online from June-Dec to understand how this is impacting our families and children.
For now, here is another online, paid opportunity to participate in research and occupy kiddos, from our friends:

The Lehigh Child Development lab is currently looking for children ages 7 to 8 or 11 to 12 to take part in an online study about how children feel and react when they see others having conflicts at school. Families will talk to the researcher over Zoom while completing an online survey. Children will watch three short videos of conflicts in a school setting, and then answer questions about how the videos made them feel. They will also do a short picture sorting task where they can assign different items to the characters from the videos. Parents will be asked to fill out brief questionnaires about their children’s personalities. As thanks for taking part in the study, families will receive a $10 Amazon digital gift card. The study takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in taking part.

If you know of anyone with an infant who may be interested, please share!

If you are a parent of an infant and would like your child to participate in our study, please fill out the Contact Form on the Participate page, or call/email the lab!
