What started as a friendship between freshmen roommates and Jefferson Baseball teammates turned into a collaboration that helped elevate Jefferson Rams Athletics.

As interns working between Jefferson Athletics and the Jefferson Marketing team, visual communication design student Roman Reed and health sciences major Krish Sheth brought their student-athlete perspective to a refreshed athletics brand identity. From social media and apparel to facility signage and recruiting materials, their work helped create a more unified, recognizable look for the Rams.

With support from Jefferson leadership and the marketing and design teams, the students gained hands-on experience helping shape the future of the Jefferson Athletics brand.

Waiting for your doctor’s appointment in the waiting room can be nerve-wracking. But what if immersive art could reduce stress and promote well-being in a healthcare setting?

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the work of Lyn Godley and her interdisciplinary team of researchers at Jefferson’s Center of Immersive Arts for Health, who seek to answer that very question.

It’s impossible to repay the debt owed to those who serve their country, but Class of 1971 Thomas Jefferson University Alumni John Oughton III wants to try.

Following high school, Oughton applied to only one school: his father’s alma mater, the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. After his first semester, he decided to join the Marine Corps, where he served for seven years in various assignments overseas.

Oughton returned to Textile to complete his education and remembers meeting a group of fellow veterans. That experience became the catalyst for a mission dear to his heart.

In 2012, he established the Oughton Family Scholarship for Veterans, benefiting deserving students at Jefferson who demonstrate financial need, served in one of the five branches of the U.S. military, and have been honorably discharged or are honorably serving on active duty or as a reservist. Oughton has created an additional bequest for the same purpose.

As a veteran who benefited from the GI Bill to help fund his tuition, he knew firsthand how assistance with college costs can transform a student’s life. “That was very important to me,” Oughton says. “I sometimes get a little emotional when I talk about it.”

Sometimes, the best Commencement stories happen after the caps are tossed!

At the ceremony, pre-med graduate Talia Brocco (pictured here) lost her graduation cap decorated with sentimental photos of her grandmother Theresa, grandfather Jack and father Shaun, which hung from the tassel.

Thankfully, Kelly Dieterle, a nurse attending Commencement to celebrate her cousin’s graduation, found the cap and made sure it found its way back to Talia. What started as a lost-and-found moment turned into a conversation between two people passionate about healthcare and their journeys ahead.

It’s also a reminder that every cap tells a story. 🎓❤️

Jefferson Neuroscientist Dr. Kyunghee Koh spoke with CBS Philadelphia’s Stephanie Stahl about new research exploring vibration-induced sleep in fruit flies and its potential implications on Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive diseases linked to sleep disorders.

Dr. Kok’s findings show that gentle vibration improves sleep, restores cognitive function, and reduces the accumulation of two toxic proteins associated with the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
