For almost 26 years, the replica Civil War cannon outside of Laurel Lodge No. 467 Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, in White Haven, has stood as a monument to the service of veterans past, present and future.

Dedicated by the lodge on Veterans Day in 2000, time and weather had taken their toll on the cannon. The lodge recently repaired the cannon with donations from local businesses and rededicated it this Memorial Day.

Thanks to their work, it will stand another 26 years and beyond, reminding brethren, visitors and the community of all that's been sacrificed for American freedom.

With "The Masonic Mile," Penn Lodge 709, Concordville, raised over $30,000 for the "Help for Our Heroes" program, which provides support to veterans and active-duty military personnel. The funds raised from the family-fun run and walk will allow us to help more individual service members and host more baby showers for military families.

Thanks to all the organizers, donors and participants for making the Masonic Mile and its impact possible!

R.W. Grand Master Robert D. Brink visited Masonic Villages' Elizabethtown location to speak during the Retirement Living Resident Association meeting. He shared his personal Masonic journey and how his favorite aspects of Freemasonry will always be all the friends he's made around the world and the charitable acts of the fraternity (which include supporting the five Masonic Village locations).

"I think it's important - if you have the opportunity and the ability - to pay that forward," he said. "We have the power to do some really good things, and we do."

Brother Rob also highlighted some of the main initiatives for his term, including the Master Builder program to keep new members engaged, supporting the maintenance of The Masonic Temple in Philadelphia, lodge revitalization efforts, Masonic law updates and The Tun Legacy project. He concluded his visit by spending time with staff and residents.

Planting 67 Liberty Trees in 67 counties over five years was a challenging feat, but honoring our nation’s history and perpetuating our legacy was well worth it.

Hear from Cassandra Coleman, executive director of America250PA, our partner in this project, about its importance and our shared accomplishments.

Lodge No. 2, of Masonic District D, was recognized at a recent PHLCouncil meeting by the passing of Resolution 260322:

"Honoring and recognizing Lodge No. 2 of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, Free and Accepted Ancient York Masons, for its historical significance in the founding of the nation, its 268 years of dedication to leadership and mentorship, and its continued contributions to charitable organizations in the City of Philadelphia."

Council member Mark Squilla, representing District 1, presented the resolution at City of Philadelphia Government Hall. As the oldest existing Masonic lodge in Pennsylvania, Lodge No. 2 is inextricably linked to the birth of the United States, as its membership during the Revolutionary War included a distinguished roster of patriots, comprising 16 colonels, 10 majors and 28 captains of the Continental Army, including such notable figures as Colonel Thomas Proctor, High Sheriff of Philadelphia, and Colonel Allen McLane.

Beyond supporting our own Masonic Charities of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Masons' generosity expands to those Masonic charities with national and international reach like the Shriners Children's hospitals.

R.W. Grand Master Robert D. Brink, a member of Rajah Shriners in Reading, and Lady Allison Brink, RN, received a special tour of Shriners Children’s Philadelphia, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. They were joined by Imperial Sir Mark Hartz, Imperial Assistant Rabban, Shriners International, and Lady Kathy Hartz (pictured with Mario Salvali, Interim Administrator, Shriners Children's Philadelphia).

The group got an inside look at the life-changing care provided there every day, touring spaces like the Motion Analysis Center Lab (MAC), Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) and many others.

Thank you to the Shriners Philly team for hosting and educating our leadership!
