Penn Sangam

Penn Sangam Sangam is an Asian-American student discussion group at the University of Pennsylvania. What is Sangam? What does Sangam do?

The mission of Sangam is to promote discussion on social, political and cultural issues pertaining to the Pan-Asian community. We hold monthly Chai Chat discussions (with free chai and samosas!) on a variety of issues; past topics include representation of Asians in the media, interracial dating, perceptions of beauty, and Asian stereotypes. We also host AAPI speakers at our biannual Chai Houses,

offering an opportunity for students to interact with influential figures in the AAPI community. We aim to serve as an outlet for conversation and a resource for proactive solutions. Often our topics are relevant to the broader minority community. Sangam is open to anyone who is interested in discussing these issues and to those who want to engender dialogue and awareness.

With the Asian American community growing more and more each year, it's important to remember that Asian America is not a monolith, that it encompasses so much diversity and differences in every aspect of culture. It's important to preserve and amplify the voices of Asian Americans who are marginalized because of their ethnicity and/or their class. Come out to our Chai Chai TODAY at 4:30PM in Houston Hall 218 (Ben Franklin Room) to discuss and learn more about this intersection of identities (and get some samosas and chai)!

RSVP form:

Hello! If you plan to attend, please fill out this form to RSVP for Sangam's first Chai Chat of the Fall 2021 semester: Class and (In)Visibility in Asian America.

TW: MOVE bombing, human remains

Join Police Free Penn in taking action to demand that Penn return MOVE remains and make reparations for its active violence against the West Philadelphia community. We are disgusted by this news and encourage all to take action!

See this op-ed in the Inquirer for more information on Penn's irresponsible and despicable actions: https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/commentary/penn-museum-reparations-repatriation-move-bombing-20210421.html?fbclid=IwAR2P1CMNs5uTOv_fM5W0RVkkwK2jAYuuy5ZHPyIs1o4Jg9C2DUKhxFNREl4

🚨EMAIL ACTION🚨 link to the email prompt is in our link tree 🚨

Please read and share our response to Penn’s involvement in holding remains of Delisha and Tree Africa, two children of the MOVE family, that were killed in the 1985 state sanctioned bombing.

Join us in pressuring and admin to meet the demands of the Africa family.

Coming to you today with our lovely Special Events Co-Chairs!

What is your struggle meal? Oooh; when I'm having a rough day I tend to gravitate towards warm foods that won't upset my stomach, typically a version of Indian rice soup/porridge and a type of bean curry with pickles.

What is the best advice you've ever received? Simply work hard and trust that things will work out; they most likely will.

What would your role be in an apocalyptic movie? Honestly, I would be the first to die simply because I don't think I would bother to run.

Give us your hottest take. I'll give you three! Pineapple belongs on pizza; mint chocolate ice cream is one of the best ice cream flavors; mustard is the superior condiment.

What would your role be in an apocalyptic movie? the friend with the snacks (clementines, peach gummies, etc.)

Give us your hottest take. hot dogs are good! ordering one at costco is a delightful culinary experience
