We are so excited to be joined by Matt Cox, the writer of 'Puffs,' at the 15th annual Harry Potter Academic Conference in Philadelphia on October 23 and 24. Register now to see his talk in person or online at harrypotterconference.com.

This presentation offers a look back at the 10-year history of 'Puffs (or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic)' with playwright Matt Cox. From its creative origins to its Off-Broadway run to its widespread adoption as one of the most produced plays in high schools around the world, the session explores the unexpected trajectory of this little-play-that-could.

Cox will discuss his own process of balancing what is expected of parody with the goal of creating a work that transcends those expectations and stands with its own identity. Plus, how the changing fandom shaped the play’s own evolution in the decade since its premiere. A peek behind the curtain of how the magic happened.

WHY AN MBA AT CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE? Chestnut Hill College’s Master’s in Business Administration degree is offered 100% online, and could be completed in one year for those with an undergraduate or graduate business degree. The asynchronous, self-study design allows professionals to complete their MBA with a recommended schedule of 6 credits per 8-week term.

Twenty-seven years after being wrongfully convicted of murder, John “Yahya” Moore walked out of prison a free man.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, Moore will join Chestnut Hill College educator Tricia Way to share the remarkable story of his wrongful conviction, the long effort to secure his freedom, and the hope, dignity and resilience that sustained him.

Way, who teaches courses at Chestnut Hill College on criminal justice, restorative justice and wrongful convictions, met Moore while volunteering at SCI Phoenix. After hearing him maintain his innocence, she took notice. The two eventually worked together on a campaign seeking his release through Pennsylvania’s Post-Conviction Relief Act, bringing forward new evidence that included information pointing to a credible alternate suspect.
Moore was released on July 11, 2023, after 27 years in prison.
