We're honored to share more about our keynote speaker - Mini Timmaraju!

Mini has over 20 years of professional experience leading federal, state and local campaigns, as well as advocacy efforts for non-profit organizations. She has an extensive background on gender issues and community outreach strategies. She currently serves as an Executive Director on the Diversity and Inclusion team for Comcast NBCUniversal, based out of their corporate headquarters in Philadelphia. She was previously on the External Affairs team where she served as a liaison between Comcast and external stakeholders including advocacy organizations, political organizations, and public policy groups.

Mini will be interviewed by Neil Makhija - Lecturer in Law here at Penn Law. In 2016, Mr. Makhija was the Democratic nominee for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from the 122nd House District, where he outperformed the national Democratic ticket by 14 points in the general election. During his candidacy, Mr. Makhija won the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court case, In Re: Makhija (2016), which protected the rights of students and recent graduates to run for office in their home state under the Pennsylvania Constitution.

Our third and final panel connects us to our conference's namesake - Bhaghat Singh Thind. Samip Mallick of the South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA) will provide historical context on the Thind decision, as well as help us understand its resulting impact on the South Asian community. Professor Muneer Ahmad of Yale Law School will further contextualize the decision through the lens of critical race theory!
