Student Interfaith and Multicultural Society of Temple University We celebrate diversity in way that can create unity! You can find us on OwlConnect, Facebook, and Instagram.

The Student Interfaith and Multicultural Society of Temple University is dedicated to bringing together and sharing experiences with Temple students from various faith, philosophical, and cultural backgrounds for friendly and productive dialogues and community outreach events on and off campus. We believe that through inclusive operation and inter-sectional cooperation, we can successfully take on

critical issues on campus and within ourselves. SIMS (Student Interfaith and Multicultural Society) started off as a service based organization under the name Student Interfaith Initiative (SII). Early on, the founders realized that if any goal was going to be made resolving on campus issues regarding religious or cultural tolerances, we all as Temple University students and administration have a responsibility to cooperate and work for an enhanced agenda for diversity. We strive and love to celebrate diversity in a way that can create unity, so we are always searching to collaborate and work with organizations that are expanding their own boundaries for their members. Members of the student body who are looking for a new kind of exposure and wish to diversify their interests will love what we'll have for them and how open we are to new ideas!

The Philadelphia Muslim Students Association Council (PMC) is hosting a panel discussion from the Abrahamic faiths and we'd like to see you there!

"In order to better promote peace, understanding, and friendship amongst ourselves, we believe, we need to learn to have open discussions about our faiths and the issues we face daily. Only then, we can truly appreciate our differences and celebrate our similarities."

Yesterday was Muslim Capitol Day in Harrisburg, PA and here's an excerpt from the Council on Islamic American Relations' (Philadelphia Chapter) website about what the experience was like:

"Highlighting what they say is a national increase of anti-Muslim bias, triggered in part by the rhetoric of some Republican presidential candidates, about 50 amateur lobbyists affiliated with the Philadelphia chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations converged at the state capitol to pitch lawmakers on a range of social issues.

Armed with a talking-points memo and posters emblazoned “I am a proud American Muslim,” and “Islamophobia = Racism,” the members of the advocacy group fanned out for office visits with legislators and their staffs.

Some of the men wore beards and knitted skull caps. Some of the women wore hijabs. They spoke about anti-Arab bigotry, the Syrian refugee crisis, the movement to have two major Muslim fast days recognized as school holidays in Philadelphia, three state Senate bills that would affect the price of in-state college tuition, eligibility for driver’s licenses, and employment opportunities for authorized and undocumented immigrants."

The SIMS family would like to thank all the hard work from the organizers and volunteers that worked with and within the World Meeting of Families that ensured a safe and engaging visit for Pope Francis!

He is a highly influential man and is a living reminder how people can be united in faith. Thank you so much for coming to Philadelphia and making history!

Let's continue the conversation: look forward to hearing from us soon in regards to that.

We hope you all had a good weekend and enjoy these extra hours if you have class in the morning :)
