Todd Wolfson, president of the American Association of University Professors, said the three-year degree is the wrong answer to a real crisis. He said decades of public disinvestment have shifted the cost of higher education onto students and families, and schools should not respond by shrinking the degree and asking students to make do with less.

“We need to address the problem at its root,” he said. “Reinvest massively in higher education and build a free public higher-education system that gives every student access to a full, high-quality college education without taking on crushing debt.”

Stand With Spelman’s Janitorial Workers

On June 30, Spelman College changed its campus cleaning contractor from Aramark Corporation to Integrity National Corporation.

The longtime Spelman janitorial workers employed by Aramark had a union contract, and many had worked on the campus for more than 15 years. When Integrity took over, almost none of these experienced workers were hired.

Thirty-five workers lost their jobs. Most are African-American women.

Along with their jobs, workers lost their seniority and the wages and benefits they had earned through their union contract.

Spelman College can make this right.

Please join students, parents, alumnae, faculty, staff and community supporters in calling on Spelman to provide justice for these displaced workers and establish permanent protections for contracted workers on campus.

Community College of Philadelphia can't find the $2 million needed to honor their contract agreement and provide SEPTA passes for CCP students, but can find $1 million for controversial and proven failure AI metal detectors for Philly's safest college campus?!?!? (btw they have the money for the SEPTA passes-- every day CCP's board of trustees and management makes a choice to not honor their agreement)
