Sociologist Steve Viscelli discusses the pain points many American truckers face as they contend with rising fuel costs and the shifting transportation landscape.

"In the United States, trucks carry more than 70% of all freight,” says Viscelli. “So, when diesel spikes, transportation costs rise, supply chains tighten, and everyday goods—from fresh produce to consumer electronics—become more expensive. But fuel is only part of the story.”

On June 13th, the Penn Museum’s “Penn & Philly 250: Celebration of Community, Culture, and Freedom” Juneteenth event brought together the Penn and Philadelphia communities for a day honoring culture, history, and freedom. Alongside participation from across the University, faculty from the Center for Africana Studies led educational workshops alongside performances, storytelling, and community programming that highlighted the rich heritage and traditions of Philadelphia.
