A milestone for recreational therapy and stroke rehabilitation! 👏

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has released its 2026 Guideline for Adult Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery, and for the first time, recreational therapy (RT) is included in the guideline.

We’re especially proud of Heather R. Porter, PhD, CTRS, FDRT, who contributed to this important work and helped bring the role of recreational therapy into the national conversation around stroke rehabilitation and recovery.

The AHA/ASA has also published “Top Take-Home Messages for Recreational Therapists” as a dedicated clinician resource accompanying the guideline.

Congratulations to Dr. Porter and everyone involved in this significant step forward for the field!
