Our STHM students are taking learning beyond the classroom! 🦉

On Sept. 30, Aidan Cruz, Jamie Hotz, Tiara Page and Jasmin Acevedo represented STHM as volunteers at the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) Annual Conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Our students helped attendees navigate the conference, answered registration questions, provided directions, and shared information about dining and transportation around Center City. And after their shifts, they got the chance to explore the Exhibit Hall and experience a major industry event alongside more than 8,000 attendees from all 50 states!

Three of our volunteers are also STHM’s inaugural PCCA Scholars, making this an especially meaningful opportunity to gain hands-on experience and connect with professionals across the recreation, sports, and events industries.

A special shoutout to Dr. Blair, who represented STHM throughout the conference as co-chair of NRPA’s Accessibility Committee!

We love seeing our students put their skills into action, build connections, and represent STHM beyond campus. 💙

🌍 Taking sport research to the global stage.

The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) is proud to celebrate the work of Temple University’s Sport Industry Research Center (SIRC) at the 2026 European Association for Sport Management (EASM) Conference in Thessaloniki, Greece.

SIRC faculty and PhD students presented research exploring athlete branding, social media behavior, and organizational collaboration in sport, while Dr. Daniel Funk delivered the conference’s keynote address on “Making Research Matter.”

From examining how athletes manage their brands around major sporting events to understanding how sport-for-development organizations build shared identities, this research highlights SIRC’s commitment to generating knowledge that connects directly with the needs of the sport industry.

🚲 Exploring the impact of youth cycling in Philadelphia

The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) is proud to highlight a new partnership between Temple University’s Sport Industry Research Center (SIRC) and the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.

Together, they are examining the impact of youth cycling through the Bicycle Coalition Youth Cycling (BCYC) program, exploring how sustained participation in cycling can contribute to young people’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Supported by an Outride Research Partnership Grant, this collaboration brings together research and community-based sport to better understand how youth cycling can create meaningful experiences and lasting impact.

🏈 10 years later, and we’re still showing up!

This past Saturday, STHM was proud to be part of the student tailgate as we celebrated 10 years since Temple’s last matchup against Penn State!

We got to connect with members of the Temple community, enjoy some college football, and take in all the energy of the tailgate. It was a great day to come together and celebrate Temple!

✨ Dream Chasers Summit at Temple University ✨

Recently, Temple's campus was filled with conversations about dreams, perseverance, leadership, and the power of community at the Dream Chasers Summit. The School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management was excited to be part of the experience!

From creating and running event experiences to volunteering behind the scenes, 10+ STHM undergraduate and graduate students played an important role in making the summit happen. Our students supported event logistics, ticketing, seating, and much more, gaining valuable hands-on experience while helping bring this incredible event to life.

We were also proud to have our own Dr. Jonathan Howe, who moderated the panel, “How Far We Came: Building Businesses that Build Community,” contributed to a conversation focused on entrepreneurship, community, and creating meaningful impact.

The Dream Chasers Summit brought together voices from across music, sports, entertainment, culture, and community, giving students the opportunity to learn directly from leaders and connect with professionals who are turning their own dreams into reality.

We are proud to see our STHM students not only attending these experiences, but helping create them !!
