This Spring, STHM offered a new type of immersion course in partnership with the PGA of America. 13 of our students enrolled in "Outside the Ropes: Corporate Hospitality at the 2026 PGA Championship," which culminated in the opportunity to work at this year's Championship hosted at Aronimink Golf Club.

These students showed up and showed out! They worked in premium hospitality areas around the course, aiding PGA of America staff in serving corporate clients, executives, other VIPs and their guests during the week-long tournament.

Congratulations to these students on their hard work, and we plan to continue offering amazing courses like this in the future!

We were so stoked to host our annual Philadelphia Coaches Conference last week! Coaches from dozens of local organizations came together in Alter Hall to connect and engage with other coaches and leaders within sport and recreation, as well as learn from coaches and researchers on how to grow as coaches.

Guests engaged in sessions throughout the day, including a keynote speech by the Head Coach of Temple Football K.C. Keeler about culture to start the day off, as well as a Fireside Chat with legendary Philadelphia basketball icon and former Temple Men's Basketball Head Coach Fran Dunphy to wrap the conference up.

Thank you so much for everyone who attended, as well as all the amazing speakers, sponsors, and STHM faculty, staff, and volunteers that helped make this day possible!

During his time at Temple, Griffin Whalen threw himself into everything STHM had to offer. Whether it was the Ambler Student Life Board, Undergraduate Advisory Committee, National Society of Minorities in Hospitality, or Eta Sigma Delta, he was all in on building community and growing as a leader.

That dedication carried straight into the classroom, where our hands-on approach to hospitality education gave him the skills he needed to hit the ground running. And run he did, completing three progressive internships with Hyatt that ultimately earned him a spot in their competitive Corporate Management Training Program.

As he graduates and steps into his new role as Assistant Operations Manager and VIP Manager with Hyatt Centric Park City, we couldn't be more proud of everything he's accomplished in his four years here!

So many amazing members of our community have completed their respective programs, and a celebration was in order! Friends, family, and loved ones supported their graduates and heard inspirational and heartfelt words from Rick Ridall (BS '89, MS '92), Associate Dean Amy Giddings (MEd ‘00, PhD ‘09), Keynote Speaker Michael DelBene, Veteran Speaker Kenneth Blume (BS '26), and Megan Hunt (MS '26).

Our amazing Class of 2026 then walked the stage, received love from faculty, accepted their diploma from Dean Chip Hunter, and shook hands with President John Fry. Afterwards, everyone convened in Alter Hall for a wonderful reception.

Thank you to everyone who came to support, and congratulations to the Class of 2026! We're so proud to have been part of your journeys, and we can't wait to see what's next for all of you. Go Owls! 🦉 🍒
