First off, I will be forever grateful to Alderson Broaddus University for giving me the opportunity for my first head coaching job. For those who do not know, the Higher Education Policy Commission voted yesterday to revoke our ability to award degrees. Which in turn will force AB to close its doors in December. The season had been cancelled and now my focus is to help 130 players on our roster and my coaching staff to find a home for the fall of 2023.
I am heartbroken for this place. I am especially saddened for the young men and the coaching staff that had made a commitment to excellence not only to AB, but to my vision of “Building Special” and building a championship caliber program that would produce the highest of character and great men of character.
We were well on our way to start seeing the fruits of our labor in this fourth year and ready to turn the corner with a very talented roster had we stayed healthy. I truly believe we would have shared so much success and had one of the biggest turnarounds in football this year. We have busted our tails and trusted the process. We were very passionate about the task we were given. But now we will never know.
To my players, my staff, and everyone that has supported my vision, thank you and much love and respect to you.
For those that have reached out via text, social media, and by phone calls, if I haven’t gotten back to you yet please be patient with me as I am trying my best to help our team in this time of need. If you all want to pitch in, please pray for our program. If you are a coaching friend, give these guys a shot for the love of the game.
For those who I have spoken with, thank you for your kind words and compliments. It means so much to me to be recognized by my peers and friends the way you have. It just goes to show I have learned a lot from you and have passed on that knowledge to make these men of AB better people and better men for our communities.
To my team and staff, I am thankful and proud of how you have grown as players, coaches, and men and I will be forever grateful that I could be part of your journies.
Yours In Football,
Coach E
