ASU NALSA at Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law The Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) at ASU's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.

The Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) at ASU College of Law is a large and active group of Native and non-Native law students. The ASU Chapter of NALSA is an active member of the National NALSA organization, which meets annually during the Federal Indian Bar Conference. ASU NALSA members regularly hold national NALSA offices and have won several national awards for its activities and community efforts.

We are happy to congratulate Gabe Hunter Dowell! 🎉 During his time at ASU Law, he built meaningful experience in the ASU Indian Legal Clinic’s Estate Planning section, supporting Tribal clients with important legal services. In his final year, Gabe has served as a law clerk for Mshkawzi Law, LLP, where he conducted legal research on Indian law issues such as Tribal self-governance and economic development, and drafted case briefs and policy summaries. He also served as a law clerk for the Office of General Counsel for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, where he conducted research and drafted legal memos. We’re proud of Gabe’s dedication and hard work, and we’re excited to see all that he’ll accomplish next!

We are happy to congratulate Keely Driscoll! 🎉 During her time at ASU Law, she earned valuable experience as an Indian Law Leadership Fellow, participating in the ASU D.C. Leadership Academy and graduating with Pro Bono Distinction. Keely was actively involved in the Indian Legal Clinic, served as a Themis representative and held leadership and editorial roles with the ASU NALSA at Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, the Native American Bar Association of Arizona and the Law Journal for Social Justice. She also participated in the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project as both a junior and senior fellow and was a member of the Women in Law Student Association. Keely’s favorite memories were during the ILP traveling classes to Washington, D.C., Nebraska and Hawai’i. After graduation, she will join Zwillinger Wulkan to work in their Indian Law practice. We are so proud of her accomplishments and can’t wait to see what she does next!

We are excited to congratulate Emily Robinette! 🎉 Her leadership and dedication through her roles as an O’Connor Merit Scholar, Willard H. Pedrick Scholar and teacher’s assistant for Legal Writing and Civil Procedure have been outstanding. She also served as executive managing editor for the Corporate Law and Business Journal and was an active member of the Native American Law Students Association. Emily gained valuable experience as a legal intern for the City of Phoenix’s Employment and Retirement section and as an extern for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona under the Honorable Daniel Collins. We are thrilled to share that she will begin her role as a Term Law Clerk in September 2025. We can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes next!

We are thrilled to congratulate Sadie Red Eagle! 🎉 Throughout law school, she built an incredible record of leadership and achievement. She served as a research assistant to Professor Trevor Reed, vice president of NALSA, associate editor for the Law Journal for Social Justice and Area 1 representative for the National NALSA. Sadie also co-led the Arizona Native Vote Election Protection Project and served as a democracy ambassador for the ABA. She was recognized as a Willard H. Pedrick Scholar, received the Distinguished Oral Advocate Award, CALI Excellence Award in Federal Advocacy for the Tribal Client and placed 5th at the 2025 National NALSA Moot Court Competition! Sadie will clerk for Judge Sunshine S. Sykes at the U.S. Central District Court of California for 2026-2027. We can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes!

We are proud to congratulate Shandiin Herrera! 🎉 She was part of the Moot Court Team that made it to the Elite 8 and was named a Willard H. Pedrick Scholar for Fall 2024. Shandiin served as president of the ASU Native American Law Students Association, co-lead of the Arizona Native Vote Election Protection Project and associate editor for the Law Journal for Social Justice. Her hands-on experiences—including externships with the Navajo Nation Department of Justice, the U.S. District Court for Arizona and the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation’s Office of General Counsel—have provided her with a deep, practical understanding of the complexities within Indian law. We’re excited to share that Shandiin has accepted a job offer to practice in the Indian Law section at Zwillinger Wulkan. We can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes next!

We are excited to celebrate Imani Hicks! 🎉 During her time in law school, she was actively involved with the Native American Law Students Association, the Indian Legal Clinic and the Black Law Students Association. She served as a research assistant to Professor Robert Miller and as an associate editor for the Law Journal for Social Justice. Imani was selected for the D.C. Leadership Academy Inaugural Cohort and is expected to graduate with High Pro Bono Distinction. We’re so proud of her accomplishments and can’t wait to see what she does next!

We are proud to celebrate Samantha Marie Johnson! 🎉 She was named a Willard H. Pedrick Scholar for Spring 2024—a recognition of her academic excellence. Samantha externed with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and made meaningful contributions assisting tribal clients through the Indian Legal Clinic’s Estate Planning course with local Tribes. Some of her favorite memories were made traveling with the ILP classes to Washington, D.C. and Hawai’i. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!

Please join the Indian Legal Program and ASU NALSA at Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law for ASU Indian Law Day next Friday, November 22, 2024!

We will have a day filled with community and learning about the law school process from firsthand perspectives of other Indigenous students. This event will include a discussion with admissions and financial aid, a private lunch and discussion with current NALSA members, a mock class with an Indian Legal Program professor, and small group tours of the law school.

This event is intentionally planned for our Indigenous Sun Devil family (Undergraduates, Graduates, and recent Grads - All majors are welcome).
