Angel Murchison was raised in Mesa, AZ, and graduated from Dobson High School before becoming a Jaguar. Love is always in the Arizona air, so the are proud to reshare this love story that was first featured on the national Southern University Alumni Federation page.

Derrick and Angelโs love story began in the Fall of 2008, when their mutual friend, Chris Strozier, introduced them at a party in the newly constructed University Apartments. Despite coming from different backgroundsโDerrick from New Orleans, LA, by way of Atlanta, GA, after Hurricane Katrina, and Angel from Mesa, AZโthey instantly connected through their shared love of meeting new people and being social.
From the moment they met, they were inseparable. Derrick became Angelโs biggest supporter, standing by her side as she pursued her passionsโwhether trying out for the Gold โN Bluez Dance Team at the Mall of Cortana auditions or becoming a proud member of the alluring Alpha Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.
In 2010, they started their greatest adventure yetโparenthoodโwelcoming their beautiful daughter, Layah. After graduating in Fall 2011, their family grew again with the birth of their son, "Tre." Angel continued to serve her alma mater by working in the Student Affairs Office, ensuring their family stayed connected to Jaguar Nation and all its traditions.
Now residing in Seattle, WA, Derrick and Angel are proud parents of three and remain passionate advocates for Southern University, HBCU culture, and the lifelong bonds formed on The Bluff. No matter where life takes them, Southern University will always be home. ๐๐
