Phoenix residents and fellows came together for a social hour last week to connect, get to know colleagues outside their programs and enjoy time together beyond the clinical setting.

Moments like these help build a strong sense of community that makes the graduate medical education experience more meaningful. Thank you to the Housestaff Leadership Council for coordinating the event!

For Creighton alumnus and radiology resident Eric Juang, MD’25, the values of patient-centered care and cura personalis cultivated as a medical student continue to shape his journey beyond medical school.

As a resident at Creighton Phoenix, Juang is building that foundation through comprehensive clinical training and a culture of support. With responsive program leadership and faculty committed to mentorship and resident success, the program is helping him grow into the radiologist he aspires to become, one who is clinically excellent, thoughtful, adaptable and someone who invests in the people around them.

For Juang, the residency experience is made even more meaningful by working alongside several Creighton Phoenix alumni and friends. Together they have carried their camaraderie from medical school, supporting one another and navigating the challenges of residency as a team.

“I feel supported not only as a resident, but also as a person, and that has shaped the kind of physician and colleague I aspire to become. I start each day surrounded by people I am genuinely proud to call both friends and teachers.”

For Britt Stansbury, DO, residency at the Creighton School of Medicine in Phoenix shaped her growth as a clinician, advocate and leader, while preparing her to care for some of the most vulnerable patients in medicine.

Throughout her time as a surgery resident, she served on the Housestaff Leadership Council, where she collaborated with institutional and hospital leadership to improve the resident experience. This past August, she began her Surgical Critical Care fellowship at Valleywise Health.

“I enjoy the challenge of the ICU while also being able to have such a big impact on patients and their families. They are truly in some of the most vulnerable states we see in medicine.”

Outside of the clinical setting, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, attending Diamondback games, traveling and exploring the Phoenix restaurant scene. She is set to complete her MBA with Creighton this fall, preparing her to lead in an evolving healthcare environment.

As she enters her fellowship program, she carries a passion for critical care, a commitment to her patients and leadership skills from residency to help shape the future of healthcare.

The first graduating class of the Creighton University School of Medicine Phoenix Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship marks a major milestone for the program.

Three of the program's four fellows are continuing their careers in Arizona, with two joining Creighton Alliance members, DMG and DHMG.

During her fellowship, Abeeha Naqvi, MD, trained across Alliance member sites and specialty partners throughout Phoenix.

"The high procedural volumes at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, the complex referral cases from Barrow Neurological Institute and the advanced disease states we manage at Valleywise Health have given me a rigorous clinical experience."

For Sajithaa Varadarasa, MD, the variety of patients and clinical experiences helped build the confidence she'll carry into her career.

"Rotating across the Alliance member sites gave me a true diversity of exposure to clinical conditions and patient encounters. This experience has equipped me to confidently handle a wide range of conditions going forward."

Congratulations to Drs. Naqvi and Varadarasa as they begin the next chapter of their careers in Arizona!
