Founded at Arizona State University in 2012, the College of Health Solutions translates health research and discovery into practice and prepares students to address the challenges facing people to stay healthy, improve their health and manage chronic disease. We offer undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs in biomedical informatics and biomedical diagnostics; kinesiology; sports

and exercise science; health care delivery; nutrition; population health; and speech and hearing science.

From tackling staff burnout to lobbying for more human-centered care, Kamal Ghazi is committed to ensuring that health-care systems do not lose sight of the people they serve.

"As health care continues to evolve, particularly with the rise of AI, we can't lose sight of the lives being impacted — not just individuals, but families and communities as well," says Kamal, who earned his Doctor of Behavioral Health at the College of Health Solutions in 2024.

👏 Congratulations to all our students — some of whom graduated this May — who were honored for their outstanding achievements in academics, research and more at this month's Speech and Hearing Science Awards!

This annual ceremony, hosted with the ASU chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, is also an opportunity for us to share our appreciation for the generous donors who support student scholarships, our Speech and Hearing Clinic and initiatives that bring better speech and hearing health to our communities.

"I chose to go to ASU because they do really amazing work in the autism and aging area, and specifically with autistic women," says Samantha Harker.

Samantha earned her PhD in neuroscience this May at age 22, working with Associate Professor Blair Braden in Braden's Autism and Brain Aging Lab.

And she has just become the first Sun Devil ever to be awarded the prestigious Stanford Knight-Hennessy Scholarship, which covers tuition for a graduate degree at Stanford University!

Nalani Thomas was once told to leave school. Instead, she persevered, finding a new passion in public health through hands-on community work and research focused on maternal and child health, ethics and policy.

Now, she's reached the pinnacle of education, successfully defending her dissertation and earning a PhD in population health this May.

"I’ve been reflecting on what getting a PhD means to me as a first-generation American," she says. "This accomplishment feels like I’m honoring my family for all the sacrifices made to make this reality possible."

Nya left California for the College of Health Solutions to earn a degree in sports science and performance programming to prepare her for medical school and a career in sports medicine.

Congratulations to the College of Health Solutions' Outstanding Graduate Student Amber Catalan, who is earning a Master of Science in health care administration and policy this May! 👏

A first-generation student, she said the support from professors meant everything as she navigated her college experience.

“The faculty here really care. They want to see you succeed and grow as a professional. I came in as a regular undergrad, and now I’m graduating as an outstanding student. I never expected this.” 🎓

Congratulations to Ariana Rahman on being awarded the 2026 Goldwater Scholarship! This competitive national scholarship recognizes outstanding undergraduate students who want to pursue careers in STEM-related research.

Ariana, who is majoring in biological sciences (biomedical sciences) at The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and biomedical informatics and data science at the College of Health Solutions, has been studying immunology and women's health. Her current research at Mayo Clinic centers around endometriosis.

"This award means a great deal to me because it affirms the kind of scientist I hope to become," she says. "The Goldwater Scholarship represents not only recognition of the work I have done so far, but also encouragement to keep pursuing research that asks meaningful questions and has the potential to improve lives."

With 60+ posters and 24 oral presentations, including some virtual presentations from our ASU Online students, this was an amazing day to celebrate our Health Devils' discoveries and solutions.
