🌊 ILA's Tribal Water Sovereignty cohort starting this fall. In partnership with the Kyl Center for Water Policy at Morrison Institute (), ILA presents a specialized cohort focused on advancing water sovereignty and proactive governance for Tribal Nations within the Colorado River Basin.

Through an Indigenous-centered curriculum, participants will strengthen their leadership practices, expand professional networks, and develop the toolkit needed to address the unique challenges of Tribal Nations.

Two decades of impact. One new chapter.

The American Indian Policy Institute (AIPI) at ASU Law is now the Tribal Nations Policy Institute (TNPI) — a name that more clearly reflects the Tribal Nations and governments at the heart of its work.

For 20 years, the institute has worked alongside Tribal communities to advance sovereignty, strengthen nation-to-nation relationships and address evolving policy challenges. The name is changing, but the mission remains steadfast: supporting Tribal sovereignty and helping Tribal Nations define and achieve their own futures.

We've changed our name! Allow us to (re)introduce ourselves.

✨ We’re proud to share our new name—one that more clearly represents the communities at the center of our work: Tribal Nations and American Indian and Alaska Native citizens.

While our name is changing, our mission remains the same: to strengthen Tribal sovereignty by examining, exploring, and elevating issues impacting Native peoples.

This new chapter reflects who we serve, the work we do and our continued commitment to providing research, insights, tools and resources that support Tribal Nations and Native communities.

New name. Same mission. Continued commitment.

👉 Since 2022 ILA has been a nationally recognized leadership development program for Tribal citizens, that prepares emerging leaders to address the complex challenges facing Tribal Nations.

Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and leading, ILA equips community leaders and working professionals with the knowledge, skills, networks, and practical experience needed to lead effectively, strengthen sovereignty, and develop innovative, community-driven solutions that create lasting impact.
