Join us on Tuesday, April 13th at 1PM EST for the 6th Julesz Lecture on Brain Research with Professor Brian Rogers of the University of Oxford! Be sure to preregister via Zoom HERE: tinyurl.com/akzyzbws

In this Julesz Lecture, "Perception, Art, and Illusion," Professor Rogers will address questions such as "What does it mean to perceive?" and "Are all our perceptions illusions?" Prof. Rogers states, "I would like to argue that we need to think about perception as an ability to extract meaning - what the world offers us - from sensory stimulation, and that this is just as relevant to the perception of art as it is to our everyday perception of the surrounding world."

Hear more form Cognitive Science student, Hannah Varkey!

Hey there! I'm Hannah Varkey, your Event Coordinator for the Rutgers Cognitive Science Club! Building community is important-- if there's anything social cognition can teach us, it brings about innovative ideas, joy and even longer lifespans. Definitely things we need during these difficult times! As a senior, I'm looking forward to making fun memories with our community members. I love learning about the inner and outer worlds around us through my major Cognitive Science and minor in Geological Sciences. Cognitive Science give me a lens to understand the beings around me more complexly, and be curious in realizing there's more to each of us than meets the eye-- from more visceral and neurological to even computational aspects! Beyond our club, you might find me reporting at our student radio station, WRSU-FM New Brunswick, or hosting a podcast series called 'Autism Thinks' (on platforms like Apple, Spotify, SoundCloud) that tries to bring research and neuroscience to life through soundscapes and stories. Feel free to let me know if you'd ever like to chat or talk about your own Cog Sci journey! 🙂

It is with great honor that we congratulate Professor Elizabeth Torres who was personally honored by a Joint Resolution of the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly!

The NJ Legislature saluted the excellence of her "groundbreaking research" at Rutgers that has been "essential in shaping initiatives that transform autism medical research and treatments throughout our State" through this resolution. The resolution praises Dr. Torres' scientific contributions and service as the Director of the New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence (NJACE) along with her personal qualities, noting that she is a role model who sets "standard of excellence toward which others might strive." Dr. Torres hopes that science will continue to positively affect the Public Service sector and lead to more beneficial legislature to help people.
