Who likes playing a good ol’ game of hopscotch? Today, the Department of Public Health participated in the “meet me at recess” employee mixer where we played “Employee Health is Public Health” hopscotch. Participants filled in the squares of our hopscotch boards with initiatives and ideas on how the University can enhance and promote employee wellness on all different levels! We received some really neat and creative ideas!

As a former physician trained overseas, Carla found in public health an opportunity to continue serving communities on a broader scale. She is especially passionate about advocating for Spanish-speaking populations, empowering communities, and improving access to preventive care and health services.

Emily’s passion for public health began after taking a population health course that changed the way she viewed healthcare and health education. She was drawn to the broader impact public health can have on communities and ensuring people have access to accurate and reliable health information.

Today, she continues that work through digital media and community-focused education initiatives.

Dr. Melanie Shefchik and Dr. Stephanie Navarro Silvera attended the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health for Northern NJ Annual Spring Soiree. This event celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of the organization and its partners in advancing the health of women and children and reducing inequities in adverse outcomes in maternal and child health.
