Apply for Building the Global Classroom: Educators in Residence Program

The Global Studies Center invites K-12 educators to apply to our Building the Global Classroom: Educators in Residence Program, a Pennsylvania model for transforming K-12 educator leadership through literature and AI literacy!

This opportunity is designed for educators who are interested in exploring literary narratives that address how emerging technologies, shifting demographics and economies, and growing environmental challenges intersect to redefine power, security, and opportunity worldwide.

The program will offer a unique opportunity for a cohort of 10 K-12 “Educators in Residence” to immerse themselves in the interdisciplinary field of Global Studies and then lead one of the series’ curriculum workshops, ultimately serving as ambassadors to K-12 administrative, educator, and community networks.

Join Pitt Alumnus Dr. Mahmood Mamdani (Herbert Lehman Professor of Government, Columbia University) for a conversation with Dr. Christel Temple about his time as an undergraduate student at Pitt during the Civil Rights era.

Dr. Mahmood Mamdani came to the University of Pittsburgh from Uganda in 1963, one of the hundreds of East African students who enrolled in American universities as part of the "Kennedy Airlift."
As an undergraduate he joined the civil rights struggle, boarding a bus with fellow Pitt students for Montgomery, Alabama, where he was arrested. After returning to Pitt, he completed his degree in 1967 and went on to become one of the pre-eminent postcolonial scholars of his generation.
