Yesterday, we held the 17th annual McGinley-Rice Symposium, dedicated to advancing social justice for vulnerable populations.

This year’s symposium explored the impact of disasters, which can change lives in an instant and deepen existing barriers to health, safety, and essential resources. Through these conversations, we looked beyond the disasters themselves to recognize the individuals, families, and communities whose lives are forever changed by them.

We were also honored to present Sister Rosemary Donley with the Eileen Zungolo Spirit of Service Award in recognition of her lifelong commitment to social justice, health policy, and the nursing profession. This year’s symposium was dedicated in her honor, celebrating a legacy of service and advocacy that continues to inspire.

This weekend, Duquesne University School of Nursing had its largest cohort of faculty, graduate students, and alumni attend the Transcultural Nursing Society Conference in San Antonio, TX!

Our incredible turnout reflects our community’s shared commitment to learning, collaboration, and advancing culturally informed nursing practice. As a leader in transcultural nursing education and home to the nation’s primary PhD program focused on transcultural nursing, we recognize the importance of continually expanding our knowledge and perspectives to better serve diverse populations.

Big congratulations to the newest fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN)! 🎉👏

We're especially proud to celebrate our own faculty member, Dr. Kimberly Kasper, and alumni Dr. Jennifer Couvillon, Dr. Abby Kra-Friedman, and Dr. Evie Lengetti, who were inducted into the AAN's 2026 Class of Fellows.

Their leadership and impact across nursing practice, research, education, and policy continue to make a difference in healthcare and inspire the next generation of nurses.
