International Student Relief Fund

PITTSBURGH, PA – At the end of the Spring 2020 Semester many of us were able to apply for aid under the CARES Act passed by Congress to provide COVID-19 related relief to universities. There were several variables that were taken into account by the US Government regarding which individuals would receive funding directly and because of this, a valuable population at Point Park University was unable to: our international students.

Because of this, The Student Government Association (SGA) together with the International Student Services and Enrollment Office, the Office of Alumni Engagement and Giving and other departments on campus, came together to create a fund that will directly support our international students. Point Park University is a community, and SGA knew that no community can effectively operate when certain members are not given the resources they need to be successful.

Please help us in supporting our international students. You are able to do so via a donation through Point Park’s Venmo (QR provided). When donating through Venmo please include your name, student ID number, and “International Student Relief Fundraiser” in the description. Or, if you prefer to donate via the website go to https://www.pointpark.edu/alumni/GiveNow/index select “Other” and write “International Student Relief Fund”. Any amount you are willing to donate will be helpful and greatly appreciated.

If you are unable to give monetarily or are interested in other ways to give back, check out the larger COVID-19 effort on how you can help and donate in other ways: https://www.pointpark.edu/alumni/Giving/index

As you know, this virus can and has impacted us all. Everyone at Point Park University deserves to feel supported and secure. We hope you join us in contributing to this cause for our fellow community members.

Statement for International students on the release of I.C.E. message regarding COVID-19 / Fall 2020 and visa consulate issues

We are sure you and your family were disappointed to hear the news on Monday, July 6, regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Fall 2020/COVID-19 education parameters. Following worldwide visa consulate closures since March 2020, this has been one of the most difficult years in recent history in assuring International students of their ability to study in the United States.
The International Students Services and Enrollment Office knows how much this affected you and your family on travel, education and life plans. While we are both outraged and heartbroken by the lack of foresight by the Federal government, we wanted you to know that we are committed to you as an International student and the contributions you make to our city and beyond. We are working tirelessly to bring you to campus to join our community. Luckily, there are others that are taking this federal mandate to task and hopefully through the court system we will have better and more sympathetic guidance in the near future. In the meantime, we wanted to let you know that you are not alone in this and assure Point Park University’s commitment to you studying in the US.
