Since then, Pitt Law has continued to grow and enhance the legal education provided, each year graduating over 200 legal scholars equipped to enter and impact a worldwide legal community. While we have a venerable history, Pitt Law is on the move with a curriculum that offers strong fundamentals, as well as the programs and opportunities that are critical to lawyers today. Pitt Law was well represented at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner at the historic Waldorf Astoria in New York City!

Dean Jerry Dickinson joined distinguished Pitt Law alumnae Lucy Fato (LAW ’91), General Counsel of Vantage Risk Companies, and Martine Beamon (LAW ’92), Partner at Davis Polk, for an evening celebrating fellowship, philanthropy, and service.

Both Fato and Beamon serve on the Foundation’s Board of Directors, supporting its longstanding mission of helping vulnerable women and children in New York.

Call for Papers!

The Pittsburgh Tax Review at Pitt Law is seeking submissions for its Spring 2027 special issue, “State Tax Policy and Economic Inequality.”

The issue will explore how state tax policies shape economic opportunity, including developments in wealth, income, and property taxation, voter-driven initiatives, and the distributional effects of tax policy.

Scholars, practitioners, and others working in tax law are invited to submit proposals for contributions of 3,000–5,000 words.

📅 Abstract deadline: Nov. 13, 2026
📝 Abstract length: 250 words maximum
📩 Submit to: [email protected]

Selected contributors will be notified by November 23.

Distinguished Professor of Law Vivian Curran recently attended the 22nd General Congress of the International Academy of Comparative Law, held September 28–October 2 at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.

Dean Jerry Dickinson recently participated in the Washington State Judicial Conference, joining Professor Jonathan Marshfield of the University of Florida Levin College of Law for a discussion on “Judicial Laboratories of Democracy,” moderated by retired Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu.

The conversation explored the important role of state courts and state constitutions in shaping constitutional rights, advancing democratic innovation, and strengthening American constitutional democracy.
