Good Afternoon, all!

I hope finals are going well for everyone. Please find below short candidate biographies and a link to a survey containing the ballot for the 2015-2016 officers for EMLS. Please cast a vote for each position, even if that person is running unopposed. Please have your votes in by Thursday, May 7th.

Robert Dobkin - As a second year law student with a background in the energy industry, I am writing to express an interest in an officer position with EMLS. Prior to becoming a law student, I was a Senior Field Representative at Chesapeake Energy. During the course of my employment at Chesapeake Energy, I managed the acquisition and development of more than sixty unconventional drilling site locations in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia. I have first-hand knowledge of land management practices and a deep understanding of the impacts of this type of development on our communities. In addition, I have contacts within many of the regional exploration and production companies, as well as the regional trade associations. As a result of this experience, I am confident that as President of Duquesne University School of Law Energy & Mineral Law Society I can help our group become known in the local community. I am eager to have the opportunity to help advance the goals of EMLS.

Nicholas Barone - Hi, my name is Nicholas Barone and I am a 3E student here at Duquesne University running for a position of the Energy and Mineral Law Society. Over the past three years I have served as the President and Vice President of EMLS. I am a native Pittsburgher and I was born and raised in Whitehall and currently reside in the South Side. I attended the University of Pittsburgh, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. In addition, I received an undergraduate Certificate in Nuclear Engineering while at the university. After completing my undergraduate degree, I continued my studies and completed my Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. In completing my graduate studies, I selected electives pertaining to mining and the extractive industries as these industries have had and continue to have an important impact on our local community and the global energy picture. In my experiences, I have been to natural gas drilling sites, acid mine drainage treatment facilities, stream reclamation sites due to long wall mining and Penn State's Breazeale Nuclear Reactor. With my experiences, I am looking to strengthen our society's ties to the local industries and become more involved in the community.

Kathryn VanDeveer - My name is Kathryn VanDeveer and I am currently a 2L. I am a staff member on Joule: Duquesne Energy & Environmental Law Journal, Secretary of the Student Bar Association for 2015-2016, and Philanthropy Co-Chair of the Student Bar Association for 2014-2015. I previously worked full time for Atlas Energy as a land analyst. I graduated early from The College of William and Mary in 2012 with a dual degree in Public Policy, and Environmental Policy; as well as a minor in Economics and a concentration in Psychology. I am highly interested in the application of energy and land use law and would enjoy the opportunity to serve the EMLS.

Molly Emmett - I am currently a 2nd year evening student and last year's EMLS Secretary. I am a paralegal in the Oil and Gas Title group at Babst Calland downtown and many of our clients are local companies wishing to drill wells in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Working at Babst Calland, I have been acquired first-hand knowledge of the processes that must take place prior to drilling. I hope that as Treasurer of the EMLS I will be able to get our group out to see some drilling operations and to overall assert our presence in the local energy and mineral law community.

Hello EMLS members!

As many of you know, last year the EMLS had the wonderful opportunity of hosting Mr. Nicholas Deiuliis, President and CEO of Consol Energy, at the law school as a guest speaker. This spring Duquesne's "Lawyers on Location" program has been working with Mr. Deiuliis and Consol on an event to be held at Consol's new headquarters in Southpointe. This exciting event will be held on Friday, April 10th, beginning at 12:30, and Duquesne will provide students with transportation from the law school around 11:45. Business attire will be required. Not only will students be able to take a tour of Consol's facilities and to meet various Consol attorneys and employees, but Consol has also taken on the initiative of inviting various other actors in the energy industry to the event, providing even more networking opportunities.

The EMLS is excited to participate in this event, as it will be a great learning experience and excellent networking opportunity! Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending this event, as we are hoping to let the organizers know how many students we will be bringing as soon as possible.

Thanks!

Good Afternoon,

See attached for a screenshot from The Docket about an employment opportunity during the Hart Energy Conference. Not only is it a chance to make a little money, it's also a great opportunity to attend the conference. I've attended a similar conference in the past and the speakers and exhibitors covered just about every facet of the growing Oil and Gas industry, so it's a fascinating event.
