About the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship

In the fall of 2012, the Carnegie Mellon Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), now the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship, was created to strengthen and serve the already bustling culture of entrepreneurship and innovation at Carnegie Mellon, and to accelerate the commercialization of university research and innovative ideas. The Swartz Cen

ter mission is threefold:
-Defining CMU as the "destination of choice" for all individuals–faculty, staff, and students–interested in entrepreneurship.
-Fostering an "inside-out" approach to creating winning commercial ventures from cutting-edge research and ingenious ideas for the benefit of society.
-Developing an extensive, vibrant network of alumni entrepreneurs. To accomplish its mission and goals, the Swartz Center takes a comprehensive and multifaceted approach, operating across all CMU schools, colleges and research units. Its Pipeline of Programs serves students, faculty and staff across campus and alumni across the world. The Swartz Center fosters collaborations and connections between individuals with domain expertise and those with business acumen and training, on and off campus. In this endeavor, the CIE works closely with the Center for Technology Transfer and Enterprise Creation (CTTEC), Carnegie Mellon’s tech transfer office, and with members of the wider community. Governed and advised by the Council of Deans and the Faculty Liaisons representing all schools and colleges across campus, the Swartz Center is ideally suited to facilitate sharing of resources, bringing together a broad range of educational and experiential activities focused on innovation and entrepreneurship –a "one-stop shop" for CMU faculty, students, faculty, staff, and alumni.research from the university’s world-class schools and colleges.

Although a small group, we were super hyped to visit Gather AI last Friday for our Proseminar session! CMU Carnival and other campus activities were happening, but we were happy to squeeze in a visit to their new facility to witness and learn about their awesome technology!

Shout out to Mary for helping to organize our visit, Gather co-founders Sankalp, Daniel and Geetesh and everyone who took the time to share!
