In our latest YouTube video, Dr. Paul Phrampus, Director of WISER, examines the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare simulation education. While AI offers exciting opportunities such as generating simulation scenarios, creating virtual patients, analyzing learner performance, and providing individualized feedback, Dr. Phrampus argues that the central question is not what AI can do, but what role it should play in teaching and learning.

Our team was hard at work last week setting up the simulation lab at the UPMC Mercy School of Nursing at Altoona. We set up two medical education theaters, or MET rooms, and two control rooms. Thanks to Matt, Kim, Elliott, Jim L., and Jim C. for all of your efforts!

Following up from yesterday, if you guessed that our team was printing a suture trainer mold, you were correct! At WISER these trainers provide valuable hands-on practice to refine suturing techniques on reusable, realistic tissue models. This trainer specifically consists of two layers with a flesh-colored epidermis and a red-colored dermis.

By making these in-house, using molds from our 3d printer, we ensure that our suture trainers are not overused, providing the best experience for learners. Producing these trainers internally allows for customization when needed and is also less costly than purchasing from suppliers.
