At 18, Sajani Amarasiri B'12 moved to the U.S. from Sri Lanka to study supply chain management at Duquesne University.

After starting her career in tech, she began exploring entrepreneurship.

With traditional family recipes and wellness in mind, Sajani founded South Asian beverage brand, Kola Goodies.

🇱🇰 Her products include Sri Lankan Milk Tea and Masala Chai, made with high-quality spices sourced directly from Sri Lankan farmers.

"I wanted to make them accessible and healthy, while staying true to their roots," she shared.

Kola Goodies debuted at Whole Foods Market in the Bay Area and Northern California in 2024. 🎉

Sajani noted, “What I learned at Duquesne—from supply planning to negotiation strategies—are things I use every day in running Kola Goodies."

Growing up in Southern California, sunshine and palm trees surrounded Daniel Smolsky, B’20, L’23, throughout his early years. When deciding on a college, Daniel knew he wanted to attend school in a larger city in the eastern United States. He enrolled at Duquesne University, trading the golden state for Pittsburgh’s golden bridges.

“During my four years of undergrad, I fell in love with its people and the school,” he said.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude, Daniel received his bachelor's degree in economics and marketing from Duquesne University Palumbo-Donahue School of Business and decided he was ready for another challenge. He applied and was accepted into our Duquesne Kline School of Law.

He served as a teaching assistant (TA), was on The Law Review and was a member of the Appellate Moot Court Board. Daniel was recently invited to be a coach for a current Moot Court team. In the spirit of service, he agreed and relished that role.

Daniel met his now wife, Riley, N'21, when they were Orientation leaders at Duquesne. The two of them have additionally been involved with the University volunteering as coaches for the past five years for the Women’s Club Soccer team that she started.

Off the field, Daniel serves as an associate at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP in downtown Pittsburgh and having now spent nearly 10 years in Pittsburgh, Daniel cannot see himself anywhere else.

He said, “I really have an amazing group of friends and supporters here. I have a great group of colleagues and I love Pittsburgh. It is a wonderful place for young adults because of the beautiful blend of arts, culture, theatre and sports. I don’t see us leaving.”

Through Duquesne Asset Management Group (DAMG) and the Student-Managed Investment Funds (SMIF) program, Joey Nichol B'26 oversaw one of three investment funds.

"I joined the organization as a freshman, knowing very little, and it quickly became one of the most influential parts of my college experience," he shared.

With guidance from Investment Strategy Institute faculty and an executive-in-residence, finance students use Bloomberg® Terminals and other tools to research and make investment decisions.

"We managed an investment portfolio of $1.7 million." Today, all three funds total nearly $2.2 million.

While reflecting, Joey noted that the students and professionals he met at Duquesne University challenged his thinking and expanded his perspective. "I owe so much of my growth to DAMG and the SMIF program."

In July, Joey will begin his career as an Analyst at J.P. Morgan Private Bank. 🎉

Rosie Franjoine, A’24, MS’25, plans to open a training facility for service dogs that support individuals with mental health conditions. 🐾

“Witnessing the struggle for some people, they deserve to have the type of accessibility that service dogs can provide,” she said.

With Staci Offutt's guidance and her goal in mind, Rosie enrolled in the M.S. in Entrepreneurial Leadership program.

“I was looking for a program that would build leadership experience since I want to become a good CEO for my future company."
