Humanities Center - University of Pittsburgh

Humanities Center - University of Pittsburgh The Humanities Center fosters advanced research in the humanities, both by University of Pittsburgh faculty and by leading scholars around the world.

The Humanities Center fosters advanced research in the humanities, both by University of Pittsburgh faculty and by leading scholars from around the world. It cultivates interdisciplinary and collaborative study, programming, and teaching. The Center hosts several fellowships throughout the year. These include: Early Career Fellow, Visiting Short-Term Fellow, and Pitt Faculty Fellow. It also offers

faculty the chance to apply for a Collaborative Research Grant. The Humanities Center supports projects that foster research across departments or institutions, including conferences, lectures, and more, bringing together faculty from different departments and/or institutions through Faculty Collaborative Research Grants. We seek collaboration that enriches intellectual activity on campus and leads to results which can be specified. We do not grant funding support for the purchase of equipment or travel from Pitt's campus. To the extent that our funds permit, the Humanities Center offers two types of support: smaller grants up to $2,000, and larger grants up to $5,000. There are several events, such as colloquium and lecture series, that happen each semester. Stay up-to-date on these exciting opportunities to talk with and listen to scholars on our Facebook. Calls for Fellowship Applications

Amid all the troubling news and adjustments caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, please also take note of two exciting new programs that Pitt's Humanities Center is now sponsoring for the 2020-21 academic year - one for Pitt faculty, another for Pitt graduate students.

We are now calling for applications from faculty to convene two Transdisciplinary Research Seminars. Successful applicants will receive a course release in Spring 2021 to enact their proposal.

We are also now calling for applications from graduate students for five Summer Research Fellowships. Successful applicants will receive $10,000 in summer funding and would participate in the intellectual life of the Humanities Center during the 2020-21 academic year.

All details are available here: https://www.humcenter.pitt.edu/apply-humanities-center-programs

Applications for both fellowships are due by April 6, 2020.

We look forward to a time when we can convene again to think together in person!
