To whom it may concern:
On Friday, February 14th, it was brought to the attention of the Kappa Delta Epsilon executive board that Sto-Rox School District has completely run out of paper. We made a quick decision to create a “Pop-Up Service” where our members could fulfill a service requirement by making a donation of $5 that we would put toward purhcasing reams of paper to bring to the school. We saw a problem and knew we had to help.
We were overwhelmed with generous donations not only from KDE members, but also from people outside of the organization. Family members, friends, and strangers made contributions to a cause about which we were so passionate. In four days, we raised over $400 to provide Sto-Rox with materials such as reams of paper, as well as folders, pencils, tissues, and many others.
As an organization of future teachers, we understood how important it was for us to take action in this unfortunate situation. Many of the KDE members are doing their fieldwork at Sto-Rox, so they have witnessed firsthand how much this school needed help. We may not have solved the problem on our own, but we helped make a difference in the lives of teachers and students.
As an executive board, we are very proud of our members for their generiousity. This shows that they are living out the values that Duquesne Univeristy and Kappa Delta Epsilon have instilled in them. This group of preservice educators are truly going to be Leading Teachers. We look forward to the efforts we will continue to put into helping students have the best chance at success in schools and learning what it really means to be a teacher. To our members and other donors: thank you for your kindness! You have made such a big difference. We appreciate you and the kindness in your hearts.
Sincerely,
Alpha Kappa, Kappa Delta Epsilon
