Staff Council wrote this month's Staff Matters column for University Times, taking a look at the FY27 salary pool for non-represented staff at the University of Pittsburgh.

The article highlights the return of a University-level pool supporting merit, market, and equity adjustments this year, comparing it against the year-over-year inflation rate.

Staff Council has representatives on the University Budget and Planning Committee, participates in ongoing conversations in shared governance and advocacy, and continues to highlight the ongoing gap between this pool and inflation as something worth watching.

Last Thursday, we pulled off a little surprise to honor Mark Burdsall, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Consulting Services, on his retirement after 28 years at Pitt!

In recognition of his years of dedicated service to the University and steadfast partnership with Staff Council in shared governance, our Mentor Award will now be named in his honor: the Mark Burdsall Mentor Award.

Thank you, Mark, for everything you've done for Staff Council and for the Pitt community over the years. Congratulations on your retirement!

👏👏 👏Three cheers for Staff Council supporting Pitt staff!

The University of Pittsburgh staff that gathered today for the annual Pitt Staff Council Spring Assembly had a chance to learn how to navigate change through practical strategies, meaningful dialogue, and cross-unit connections.
