Next week, BCC is proud to partner with the NAACP-Berkshire County Branch for a free public Reading Frederick Douglass Together event, supported by a Mass Humanities grant with funding from Mass Cultural Council.

The community reading of Frederick Douglass’s 1852 speech, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” will take place during the NAACP – Berkshire County Branch Juneteenth Celebration on Sunday, June 21 at noon at Durant Park in Pittsfield.

Join us as we read, reflect and gather in community to honor Black freedom, culture and history.

BCC is proud to announce that our library has been renamed The Ruth Edmonds Hill Library in honor of a lifelong librarian, educator, oral historian and Pittsfield native whose work helped preserve stories across generations.

Hill began her career in librarianship at the Berkshire Athenaeum and later worked at North Adams State College and BCC before joining the Schlesinger Library at Harvard, where she helped lead groundbreaking oral history projects, including the Black Women Oral History Project.

The new name follows years of research, community feedback and an inclusive review process shaped by faculty, staff, students, alumni and the broader Berkshire community.

We look forward to celebrating this new chapter for BCC’s library this fall in partnership with the Berkshire Historical Society and the Samuel Harrison Society.

In his valedictorian address, Jeremiah Reagan, BCC’s 2026 Valedictorian and a graduate of the Nursing program, reminded the Class of 2026 that education is more than a degree. It is a path toward purpose, service, and continued growth.

Congratulations, Jeremiah, and congratulations to the Class of 2026. It’s time to take the next step of the journey. 🎓

Last week, the BCC community gathered to celebrate Ellen as she prepares to retire after 14 years of transformational leadership. 💙

The celebration included heartfelt remarks, special recognitions and video messages from Congressman Richard Neal and Senator Ed Markey.

SGA President and recent graduate Briana Booker also presented Ellen with a special “Dear BCC” book created in her honor, which is now available to view in The Ruth Edmonds Hill Library on campus.

Thank you, President Kennedy, for your service, care and lasting commitment to BCC and the Berkshires.
