People with AuDHD have higher likelihood of hormone sensitivity.
This is well supported in research.
AuDHD brains are:
more sensitive to internal stimuli,
more reactive to neurotransmitter shifts,
more prone to dysautonomia,
more vulnerable to abrupt hormone changes,
So even normal hormonal fluctuations feel like “too much.” And PMDD & peri & postmenopause research on these brain types is still lacking in both volume & missed in practical application of this knowledge. This has come up a lot in my practice this holiday season.

Theme in Therapy:
Remember that there is space for other people’s experiences of you. How we experience ourselves is different from how our partners/children/friends experience us. Openness and receptiveness to feedback about how others are affected by us and how they witness us is one key to Authentic connection. In a healthy relationship, There is space enough in a relationship for differing thoughts, hopes, needs, and experiences!

It is okay to tune out sometimes. There are times when tuning out of the bigness & complexity is functional. Focusing on what is right in front of you or favorite things or items of comfort, can help you to cope. It is only when we are perpetually numbed or tuned out or avoiding that it may become an issue. Humans have a need to reduce their attention to regulate. Hope you find some small comfortable and safe things when you need to.

“Today’s Mantra: I am bigger than my emotions. I am the sea and there are just waves.”
# Surfing the waves of emotions can be very difficult. Sometimes inexplicably they are so strong, and it is easy to forget that we are the vessel that contains them, and not the other way around. We must acknowledge them, and maybe we need someone’s help to hold them with us. We like to attach stories to the waves but the wind and weather of life happen every day no matter what. We are humans who are affected. We are hit with changing brains and bodies and circumstances. When it feels too much, I hope you will reach out for help and support.
