Led by Dr. Yuanyuan Hu and Dr. Faye Peng, our students had the opportunity to experience so much more than the usual tourist sights. From walking the Great Wall, experiencing college campus culture and life at South-Central Minzu University, and interacting with Chinese preschool to high school students, to a Dragon Boat night cruise in Xuanen, exploring a Tujia ethnic minority village in Enshi, and riding a high-speed rail to Shanghai—every stop offered something new to see, learn, and experience!

A recent Atlantic article highlights a growing movement in higher education: programs that help students connect learning across disciplines, explore big questions, and find deeper meaning in their education.

The Helios Program for Integrated Liberal Arts at UW–Platteville was built on these same ideas. By bringing students and faculty together across fields, Helios helps students develop critical thinking, communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and a stronger sense of purpose.

At its best, a liberal arts education prepares students not only for careers, but also for thoughtful citizenship, lifelong learning, and meaningful lives. We're proud that Helios has been helping students make those connections for years.

There’s a lot going right at universities, if you’re only willing to see it.

We love to see it!
