The need for a high-quality public relations education presents a growing challenge in today’s complex world. The practice of public relations therefore must be grounded in formal education and training, along with devoted support by the teachers, practitioners,
professional associations, institutions and organizations who possess a stake in the learning outcomes of public relations graduates. The Public Relations program at SUNY Plattsburgh therefore accepts this challenge along with the concomitant opportunities to nurture students’ talents, abilities and skills in public relations by means of a comprehensive academic program emphasizing the theory behind public relations, the original principles of public relations, public relations research, writing and production, supervised experiences, ethics, and public relations planning, management and professional practice – conceived, designed and delivered in a manner that visibly demonstrates, facilitates and reinforces the close relationship between public relations education and public relations practice.
